Another absolute garbage shot...just gifting wickets here. The ball pitched on the stumps...why the hell would you be trying to cut it? I know it's his pet shot but for christ sake pull your head in for a bit your side is 3 for 64!!

All well and good but one has to wonder what the use of Phil Hughes is if he shouldn't be cutting.

If he's that one-dimensional he shouldn't be in the side.

Anyway Australia have the best bat on the planet so they will probably still make 250 or something.

nice to see we are not the only side that can make the opposition look better then what they are in their home conditions.

Hughes, like so many of the Aussie batsmen, just does not work the singles off the spinners. He lets them rack up the dot balls before eventually going for a big shot.

Maxwell for a ton on debut. Just seems like the sort of bloke who would pull it out from nowhere.

its really telling of just how **** we are when the only batsmen i have confidence in making runs for us other than clarke is a bloke playing his second test

Hypothetical: If Aus could choose have chosen only Clarke or ALL 3 of Cowan, Hughes and Watson for this Test, which option would they have taken?

Putting aside Clarke's captaincy, his worth is almost equivalent to the combined contributions of that trio in these conditions.

Cook is very tall and can either get a long way forward to smother the spin or get on top of the bounce whilst every Aussie left hander is a midget
He also doesn't try and cut offspinners on middle stump. He just blocks and works to leg.
