Unfortunately, I don't really think it's the planning that's going awry; it's the execution. Lyon's not really been milked; he's just bowled too many loose balls after his first few overs every day. He actually plainly admitted himself when he first came into Test cricket that he was worried about the rigours of bowling long spells and backing up five days in a row because the Futures League doesn't even attempt to adequately prepare bowlers for that, particularly spinners, but I'm disappointed that he doesn't seem to be improving in that regard yet with more experience.

I still think he's comfortably Australia's best spinner and one of the best off break bowlers in the world, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure they're going to be able to come up with a plan that hides the fact that he starts bowling a pie an over after his first spell every day. He needs to work on repeating his action under physical strain, and keeping concentration. The pressure will come then.
Yeah I'm not necessarily saying he's being milked, but he's trying to bowl that dream ball that rips through the gate too much (worked with Tendulkar eventually). Trying to bowl that all the time will make you bowl loose deliveries because you're going for broke. He needs to work on throwing 5 flights deliveries on a good area an over and look to slide that UFO ball/quicker ball for his wicket. Or ****, just bowl 6 balls in a decent spot would be a good start.

Tbh if you told me they were still married three years ago I'd not have questioned it.
Lol. Good call.

How about -

What the world was like last time NSW won an Origin series:

1. John Howard was Prime Minister of Australia
2. Peter Beattie was Premier of Queensland
3. George W. Bush was President of the USA
4. Tony Blair was Prime Minister of Great Britan
5. Roger Federer only had 6 Grand Slam Titles (now 16), Rafael Nadal 1 (now 10), Novak Djokovic made his Grand Slam debut in 2005.
6. Shane Warne & Glenn McGrath were still part of the Australian Cricket Team & Michael Vaughan was still full time captain of the English test side.
7. The IPL was yet to run its inaugural tournament.
8. Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston were still married.
9. Powderfinger were yet to release their last two albums and have since broke up.
10. The Transformers Franchise had yet to release their first movie.
11. Myspace was more popular than Facebook & a tweet was something a bird did.

Btw, this was dug up from May 2012.

This just further backs up the long held CW belief that every thread becomes instantly **** when Mister Wright makes a post.

okay clearly no-one is sharing my Cowan hate....

Last 6 Tests have produced 289 runs at 26.27, while his overall average is now a whopping 32.62

Dump him already

Warner
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Khawaja
Wade
Henriques
O'Keefe (replacement for Bird)
Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon
If Watson can't bowl then he should open with Warner. Cowan hasn't looked good enough to date and isn't at the stage of his career where he will make vast improvements to become a proper test opener. Hope you keep him in for the ashes.

True I guess, shows how bare the cupboard is at present. Makes the England batting of the 90's look good.
I reckon we might have a couple of better batsmen than Cowan at home ftr, especially when you consider that I think Watson might score more opening than he will at 4 as a difference in favour of any middle order batsman we pick.. but I still think Cowan's more likely to get runs than Khawaja or Smith at the moment.

Back to the old school. Put him in at 6 and make the **** mark out his run-up. Stump to stump, emphasis on reverse swing (which he's bloody good at).

IMO could take the place of a specialist bowler who can bat a bit - although this is already the brink of speculation after all the time investment he's made in his batting. Notably, though, he could apply his Twenty20 skills to bat with a fading tail.

But still - how can an army of doctors, physios, nurses, masseurs, bowling coaches, magnesium tablets and prayer to his deity of choice fail to keep him bowling?
