That's an NZ commentator classic, they trot that one out every time- "oh 7 an over, 8 an over, 9 an over doesn't worry the modern player". It's right up there with "if they bat the 50 overs they'll win", as though runs at 7 or 8 an over just come without the batsmen having to try to get them.

But I don't actually think NZ are behind the run rate.
8+ an over from 13 overs is not easy. 153/4 off 37 is not a great place to be chasing 258.

We're doing worse than England were in their innings where Trott played an almost identical innings to Williamson...

It's not literally the run rate that's the problem for them, it's that this partnership has been noticeably slower than the Williamson/Elliot one.

It's still only a hundred runs and that can happen in no time with proper batsmen hitting well, but that's not happening.
