oh oh Swann vs Taylor.

I wonder if the message is still for Elliot to attack Swann and keep Taylor reserved until later on.

This has to be England's default tactic IMO. Look like such a better side to chase than we do set and defend a total

So an optimistic 8 per over from here will give us 260ish. That is very unlikely to be enough, especially given how good England's Cook/Trott/Bell top order should be at chasing mediocre totals.

Hate to be a fanboy, but yeah, agreed.
It's not really being a fanboy; it's just prioritising the Tests. Setting England 15 runs less to chase in the second ODI is a small price to pay for New Zealand if it means Taylor averages 50 in the Test series.

To be fair to our batsmen, England have bowled extremely well.

Anderson and Finn were excellent, and Swann's no mug either.

Reminded me too. That's exactly what we need from here.

Fair to remember that Pakistan bowled utter trash to Taylor in the latter part of that innings though.

yeah I agree, but during your proclamations about wanting to go to an ODI in NZ, you touched on the fact that the crowd genuinely enjoys a good ODI still. We're not satisfied with t20, but we don't have the patience for tests.

And since ODIs are traditionally our best format, that's what the public generally cares about most.

Taylor might've been vilified for this innings
