Billy Murdoch is named in Geoff Armstrong's book as the 86th greatest cricketer of all time.

On the other hand Martin Crowe doesn't make Armstrong's list for reasons I can't think of. But I'd still much rather have Crowe in my line-up!

I have, and like, that Armstrong book. But I'd never realised Crowe wasn't included.

I have a second edition, and from memory he includes Inzy and Sangakkara in there at the expense of two players. I'd take Crowe above both of them.

Inzy yes. Sangakkara I'm not so sure.

However, I doubt that even Sangakkara could muster 188 against Marshall, Holding, and Garner at Bridgetown. So maybe yes also.

Just as a correction to what I wrote above- Armstrong includes Inzy in his first edition, but "drops" him in his second edition for Sanga. Might start a thread on this book....

Good idea Monk. It's also interesting that Clarrie Grimmett doesn't make his Top 100 either, and Kallis is ranked a lowly 88 behind Procter etc.

It won't be a bad team in spite of the obvious weakness Micky Stewart.

weldone XI:
Micky Stewart
John Edrich
Robin Smith
Mahela Jayawardene*
Patsy Hendren
Darren Lehmann
Denis Lindsay+
Rangana Herath
Zaheer Khan
Colin Croft
Chris Martin

Reserve: Verdun Scott

But I know I could've played this better. I was a bit careless in a few rounds in the middle.

And well conducted, Michael..

Solid middle order and bowling line-up, with my favourite player being Patsy Hendren. Probably the best batsman in the side too.

In the theory the final round should be revealed pretty soon. And I get to see what sort of player I get for $1.

Thanks Michael. That must have been a lot of tedious work to keep track of all those bids.

Billy Murdoch scored Test cricket's first ever double century while batting at No.3, and seemed to bat at first drop the most often. So first drop for Billy.

Larwood averaged 4 runs more than Bari and was a pretty handy attacking batsman from what I can make out. So Larwood at No.8 and Bari at No.9.

Trevor Bailey opened the batting with Peter Richardson against Neil Adcock and Peter Heine during the 1956/57 tour of South Africa (result: 2-2) . He averaged a creditable 26 with some consistent scores. So, I think I'll leave him at No.2 to partner the good Reverend.

Razzaq to destroy all with bat and ball.

Got to be happy with that batting though, clearly a top bowler short, needed to bid that extra bit for Miller.

Thanks Michael!

- I consider the players in red to be players who would contend for their national ATG XI
- Players in blue were very good players for their countries
- Players in purple (Lillee) are undisputed ATGs
- The other two (Lever and Subba Row) were handy cricketers for their countries.

I don't even know who the **** Phil Home is!

Razzaq has only opened once and normally bats at 6 or 7. While Sachin normally bats at 4 during Test mathces, he has been a regular opener in one day internationals. Since his technique is near perfect I think that Sachin would go OK against any of the bowling attacks on display in this draft. Hence;

01. Herschelle Gibbs
02. Sachin Tendulkar
03. Hashim Amla
04. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
05. Doug Walters
06. Tony Greig (*)
07. Abdul Razzaq
08. Kiran More (+)
09. Simon Jones
10. Erapali Prasanna
11. Courtney Walsh

Now the team has a world class top 6 batting line-up and feels good.

I am sure he would but he is one of the greatest number 4s of all-time and is the best player in my side so don't want to take that strength away.

Thought about putting Chanderpaul there but decided to just make the strongest middle order possible. Razzaq can go out there and have a slog, Amla more than capable of dealing with the new ball if he has to.

That's an interesting exercise Monk.

01. Rev. David Sheppard
02. Trevor Bailey
03. Billy Murdoch
04. Lindsay Hassett
05. Clive Lloyd (*)
06. Colin Bland
07. Gary Gilmour
08. Harold Larwood
09. Wasim Bari (+)
10. Charlie Griffith
11. Ashley Mallet

I'm tempted to make Mallet Blue because of his 8 for 59 against Pakistan in 1972 (best ever innings figures for an Aussie spinner) and overall SR of 76. Likewise for Gilmour due to his outstanding 1976/76 series against the West Indies where he took 20 wickets at 20.3, SR of 39.

However, that's probably wishful thinking on my part. So with that exercise done it looks as though your team would beat my team Monk!

On the other hand I believe that my team deserves Red for overall balance, and possibly Red for its combined bowling strength. As usual it's another Watson team where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. In other words, during the heat of a 'real' battle it has all the necessary ingredients to put up one hell of a fight.

Amla has opens with aplomb in ODIs and has opened in Tests a few times, whereas Tendulkar is married to the no.4 spot. I'd go with him.
