Left-arm Chinaman bowlers!!..can they make it at test level?

given there's like one good left arm wrist spinner a decade, there doesn't seem to be much reason to keep using the term.

don't you just love a sport where your chinaman needing to rely on his googly and his revs to avoid being clouted out to his deep square leg makes complete and total sense

It's also one where as a seamer you need a short leg in for your bouncer but that's why you double bluff and go for the yorker and hope to get the batsman out leg before wicket.

And one where your nightwatchman could reverse sweep a doosra into the hands of gully and you'd be really pissed at him for doing that

But yeah I see no reason not to retire the 'Chinaman' tag. Means nothing, (potentially) racially insensitive, probably based on a myth, adds jargon, overcomplicates an otherwise functional system of bowler classification etc.

You might be right. I can't keep up with what's ok and what isn't any more. Figure if I can try to stop myself being a **** to people IRL most of the time it's better off to not sweat the small stuff.
You make up for it on here

I remember they tried to rename Eskimo lollies (sweets/candies) and Eskimo Pie ice creams but that hasn't happened yet.

but usually with more revs on the ball and a googly
Yap, only problem is that the right handers can murder them if they start picking the googly. Pretty excited for Kuldeep though, his stock delivery is top notch.

Didn't Wardle bowl orthodox SLA more than wrist-spin?

On which subject, Steve O'Keefe is already the 4th most prolific Australian SLA bowler of all time (behind Ray Bright, Charles Macartney and AB).

This is one list where a good bowler can quickly top the list in the current rich world of cricket statistics.

I know he bowled medium pacers and SLA (orthodox) too, but Sobers also bowled Chinaman deliveries.

Does anyone have stats on how many the great man took with those deliveries?
