Is it possible that being captain has affected his batting? I mean he was a perfectly fine keeper bat for us prior (pun not intended) to getting the captaincy. Maybe like Ganguly he hasn't focused enough on his batting over the years as he would have otherwise.

He never had the technique to survive as a batsman outside India, but I do feel he's mentally fatigued and so he hasn't been as good at grinding out innings as many other technically-limited batsmen do.
