Philander wasn't great here, sure (though he was good at Perth) but I don't think he was "ordinary" in England.

Averaging 12 with the ball against us helped a bit.

Ordinary is how you would probably describe him in England before the word "ordinary" was hijacked for poor.

Philander was extremely tight during the England series when the ball was not doing much and ****ing invincible when charged on.

Bowling statistics for the series are:

Philander - 12 wickets @ 23.66
Steyn - 15 wickets @ 29.20
Morkel - 11 wickets @ 34.54
Broad - 11 wickets @ 39.7
Finn - 10 wickets @ 32.2
Anderson - wickets @ 40.66

Unless by ordinary - you mean by his usual standards.

Yeah really he's only had one seriously bad match recently, at Brisbane (where tbf he did look distinctly toothless with Cowan pulling him from a metre outside the crease). Apart from that he's either been tight or ridiculous.

his final innings there saved him immensely.
the guy relies heavily on conditions to be in his favour and when he does get them he gets two times as better figures as anyone else.
however when the conditons aren;t in his favour, he appears to be more innocuous than even the likes of I sharma.

How can a bowler be so ridiculously good in his home country. I'm extremely curious to see how he does when he plays in the subcontinent.
