Baz's performances and captaincy have been superb. It was still a ****ing ****ty way to dump Taylor from the captaincy though.

Baz has made us all Tastle it, but the way this was handled will never reflect well on Mike Hesson or David White.

Not the greatest moment in NZ cricketing history, in fact it's easily the worst I've been around for. How bad this was makes the McCullum led turnaround all the more remarkable. I can't speak highly enough of how good he must be as a leader behind the scenes.

Some credit must go to Hesson too for climbing back up from this.

And to Ross Taylor for putting his head down and getting on with it afterwards.

Not only has McCullum proven himself to be a good captain and leader, but the best thing of all is the positive effect it's had on his batting. He's finally delivering on his talent and potential. All positive indicators that he's thriving in the captaincy role.

I agree with Heath. It has worked out well. McCullum has been superb - but it was still a very bad way to go about ditching Taylor.

As you might see reflected in history, however, it's not how you take the throne but what you do on it that people remember.

Playing devil's advocate here... is it possible Taylor really did not have good man management skills? I mean ffs no one would talk to him.

That's why you need the support of your coach and your senior players to help you out in that regard.

Again, playing devil's advocate here, and it does seem that he has been treated absolutely awfully in this whole saga so I don't want to look like I'm anti-Taylor here. BUT... its not the coach's job to ensure the captain (who was already in charge when the coach was appointed) to be able to speak to his teammates. The captain, when chosen, should be able to do that at a bare minimum.

Of course the captain should be given a chance to develop and improve, but I'd like to think all captains speak to their players during tours a bit more than Ross seems to have.

Install a captain who talks to his players and is pure primal beast and you'll win the World Cup. #cheekybump

Also making fun of Benchy in hindsight.
