Swann comfortably out bowled by Panesar when it mattered. He's a myth.
A myth with 212 test wickets under 30 and takes over 4 wickets a game. Impressive stats for an overrated bowler. Ajmal is better than him, only spinner who is clearly better though at present.

Depends what they do. They in a mess right now and might go worse before they get back on track so playing them now might be a good time. I thought we would get thrashed too.

Be handy if you could keep 11 players on the park for a full game though.

i'm not really that fond of playing a 2nd spinner if we don't have a good option

I reckon the selectors will be looking at maxwell for India. He's been pushed into chairman sides and Australia A sides ahead of beer etc, I think holland would of been a certainty, but he's injured.

Maxwell to bat 8 and his FC bowling figures are OK, obviously he'll get a bit of purchase in India.

Probably rotate Starc/Pattinson before the Ashes, Siddle, Lyon, Watson and Maxwell on the real turners.

Lol. And Panesar. Herath is better than Swann.

My 91 year old grandmother is better than Swann. He's a cock. Wouldn't feed him.

Agree with this

Reckon even Brad Hogg would be a better bet on most Oz grounds

I see Clarke is in the squad for the next test, guess the plan is to get through the last 2 tests and give him a rest for the one dayers if he is still having any discomfort to ensure he is fully fit for India.

Not necessarily. I cbf looking again but I remember comparing their FC records and ages at similar stages of their careers and was eerily similar. Like, within 5 runs for both bat and ball kind of eery.

Benords was the archetypical late bloomer; was picked as a bat who could wheel a few overs of leg-spin when the conditions demanded it from all reports. Barely got any overs for the first 5 years of his Test career. His bowling gradually took over but he was very much a project player apparently.

Still, Smith's leaving his run a bit late if he intends to develop his bowling to Test standard....

Surely when he returns to bowl legspin again the opposition will try and get in his head about how long you going to keep it up for this time or how long will the next break be. Better off saying nothing or saying he couldn't bowl legspin properly for a bit due to a wrist complaint or something.

I agree Swann is overhyped by the English media, but Ajmal is really the only spinner clearly ahead of him.
