With the lack of FC games they really should have given Khawaja or someone else a game if Clarke prefers someone else. Perfect opportunity to give a new batter a game with no pressure yet they load up on bowlers that won't all be needed. The only ones happy with this batting order in an ashes match would be England.

Equally, what are you going to learn about Khawaja or Maxwell's (un)suitability for an Ashes gig by letting him cash in against Sri Lanka A?

Looks like a case of trying to smash the **** out of the Lankans and get it over with as soon as possible...

If the Sri Lankans fold as expected then we don't really learn anything about our bowling. We already know we can chop and change the bowling and still win. Giving a batter some experience against a weak attack is better than have 5 bowlers who will all be looking to get a bagful. Treat the game as preparation for whats coming not just an excuse to avoid the hard decision on which bowler to 'rest'.

Should go out to bat with a weather wall around his neck and stick a key into the pitch.

Heaps. How they're travelling as a player right now, how their fielding is going, how they handle Test pressure and how they interact with a team combo which is likely to be the touring team. Lehmann is talking up Khawaja and his new attacking approach right now but how is he really going? Lehmann himself was picked in similar circumstances after dominating in Shield but failed on Test call up, later acknowledging that swinging at everything just wasn't him. And is the hype around Maxwell justified? Is his bowling a genuine Test option? Will be kinda hard to tell from the drinks cart.

Reckon the selectors have pussed out, myself.
