Pakistan have a long tail with Moin Khan at 7
Don't you hate it when this sort of thing is followed by a massive ton (which he wouldn't have got but for the support of Sami, who is also part of the "long" tail)

Yes I regret that...

Moin made 0 and 1 against Auckland and looked out of sorts against the likes of Hitchcork.

Sami wasn't that great. Tuffey and Butler is still better than him.

Butler has been absolute crap in this match, apart from the occassional good ball.

I think I heard something like 80% of his runs had come in bounderies.

There seems to be a worldwide trend at the moment where teams just cannot bowl out the lower orders.
Yes he is.

Wasted the new ball for us. Very unlucky though to have that catch dropped by hart.

So you judge one player by his performance in one side match (moin) and the other by his overall batting ave. Interesting!

Moin has always been a good batsman, but a lowsy wicket keeper.Right now he's batting on 82, he has already saved the match for Pak, and he will try to get a ton in this match to cement his place in the team too.

Razzak is a very capable batsman, infact he seems to be more of a batting allrounder these days.
Yeah I made a mistake. Just never thought the pitch would be as flat as this....

Razzag looked uncomfortable against the new ball, he has no feet movement.

What were the NZ selectors doing naming the 2nd test side half way through the 1st test?

Vincent just got out for a snail-paced 4 off about 34 balls.
The selectors should have left the 2nd test side until the end of the 1st test so that players like Vincent didn't have the comfort of already being in the 2nd test.

How was Sami not good with the bat? he helped Pakistan out of what could have been a substantial first innings deficit by adding over 100 runs with Moin Khan.

Impressive stuff from Sami and Shabbir... 10 maidens in the first 17 overs as well as the wickets of Vincent and Fleming. If the Pakistan attack gets their act together they will be far more threatening in the 2nd test than NZ's Bond-less band of medium pacers.

Ponting: 242 & 0
Fleming: 192 & 0 :O

Some kind of epidemic?

It seems to be what always happens..a player gets a big score & then flops in their second dig.

Butler is not medium, but he is erratic and so really his pace not much of a help.
Either NZ ditch Cairns or Oram in favour for a specialist bowler or specialist batsman...especially against South Africa.
Vettori is scoring more runs consistently than those two.

Mmm forgot about Butler... he actually appeared quite unlucky with a lot of his yorkers taking the inside edge for 4, but picked up a couple of cheap wickets in the end. Tuffey was really the only bowler who was consistently good. He was v. good in the tour of India as well.
Sami appears to be losing it again, 3 extras (2nb, 1w) to add to his 16 extras in first inns.

The NZ batting is disgusting at the moment...42/4..give me a break.
If they're not careful they could force an almost impossible result in favour of Pakistan.

And Cairns is also out first ball...42/5. Crazy stuff, and further makes a mockery of why the selectors were picking the 2nd test team half way through the 1st test.

Away from the tv for 10 mins, missed 3 wickets! Ignore my previous comments about Sami losing it.

Any momentum NZ had going into the 2nd test has been lost in about 10 overs.
Sami is now up to almost 150 km's and he should be feeling much more happier about bowling here in New Zealand.

Im watching Oram, he just has absolutely no idea...NZ just aren't good enough to have the luxury of two all-rounders im afraid.

I'm sure Oram is just trying to avoid getting bowled around the legs again... how does the pitch at Wellington usually play?

Tim

Cricketer Of The Year
Well I don't think it'll be too much different to the one we're seeing at Hamilton...might seam around a bit more.

And there goes Craig McMillan run out....this kind of play reminds me of the days that Glenn Turner, Geoff Howarth etc were involved.

Tim

But then again, I shouldn't be so surprised by this.

New Zealand have perhaps had some of the more memorable batting collapses ever seen in the last couple of years.

what the hell!? Hart leaves a ball & is bowled..maybe we should start taking bets as to how long John Bracewell will last as coach if this kind of form keeps up.
