The Inaugural CW "Worst Dismissal Ever" Competition

It's more fun thinking of terrible shots, than voting tbh.

What about Geraint Jones' slog with 14 required at Old Trafford, 2005?

Yeah I left this up for ages hoping to get more noms, but oh well. Gonna leave this battle up for a bit longer, not having another decided on 3 votes.

ijaz, tait, abdv, mccullum.

would prefer also to be able to vote for only one, especially when one is a whole lot worse than the other 3.

cricinfo commentary:

42.1
Martin to Broad, FOUR, slog sweep off middle and leg, well struck to the square fence

Probably need some protection out there for Broad...man does go back...

42.2
Martin to Broad, OUT, and Broad promptly pulls directly to the man on the rope that is a shocker. Half-tracker pulled like catching practise to the deep fielder. Could have slogged it anywhere but found the fielder with perfection, a sorry tale for England this
SCJ Broad c Brownlie b Martin 10 (8b 2x4 0x6) SR: 125.00

That's Bruce Martin, btw. Domestic left arm non-spinner averaging 40 odd.

Broad dismissal right now.

(Dunedin test March 2013)

Absolutely awful.
Nah, you're not having that.

Last recognised semi-competent batsman, ball begging to be smashed out the ground.

Not even in the top 5 worst dismissals for this match.

True, but if you think Broad's dismissal was worse than Root's then you're suffering from Geoff 'It's better to get out defending than attacking' Boycott Syndrome. Broad played the right shot; it was a filthy long hop that absolutely should have been smashed out the ground. He just didn't get enough on it. Root on the other hand was playing a nothing, low percentage shot to a nothing ball that was always going to get him into trouble if he connected.

Holy ****ing **** at some of those dismissals. You may get 1 or 2 in an innings like that and you are fuming. But 4-6 were just ridiculous.

Bell's in particular was just vintage Bell.

Reminds me somewhat of Symonds smashing the ball into Michael Clarke's pad, and it deflecting straight into the hands of mid off. Only 10 times funnier.
