Kohli's ticks an awful lot of boxes, tbh.

Dire ball - check

Team up against it - check

Rank shot execution - check

Subfielder who'd never held a catch in tests before - check

Leaving aside that it was Kohli who did it,Bell's was still worse as far as this series goes.

Yuvraj's charge down the wicket premeditated too, fiddle around on a turning/bouncy track was worse than Ashwin's for mine.

At least the intention from Ashwin was right from the start.

Would seem a sensible idea.

Might leave this up for a while, tbh, hell of a lot of Test cricket being played for the next while.

Reckon? Dire and painful as it was it wasn't to a rank full-bunger. Bell's probably does Kohli's on "batsman's thought process", but I think on "match situation" and "quality of delivery" I'm favouring the future Mr Augustus.

Ashwin right to attack, and despite the plaudits, primarily a bowler. Doesn't belong here IMHO.

Jono's Boyfriend did it at a bad time but so did Bell. I think as far as match situation goes they're even. To the day I'm still blown away by a guy charging down the track first ball when his team were staring down the barrel of a huge first innings deficit, while I think JB had every right to attack the full toss. Have seen Stuart McGill take a ton of wickets off ful tosses, so it's not a first by any stretch.

I don't see Brumby's nomination of the below in the list so nominating it myself

Vaughan V Simon Katich, 3rd Ashes Test Old Trafford 05

So, it would have been fine for Match awareness had he got out edging to slip on 4 like Dhoni or charging down the pitch to do nothing like Yuvraj ?
Yep, nothing wrong with Ashwin's. At that point all that matters is runs, a ball will have your name on it anyway

seriously? Surely the objective would be to survive till close of play with 9 balls left? and then support Gun Gambhir for as long as possible the next day...
What was really dumb was that Cook had just changed the field to induce that very shot, and he fell into the trap like a silly rat

Trying to slog when there's 9 balls left in the day isn't showing "good intent", it's showcasing mental retardation.
Meh, it's not like batting is going to get magically easier tomorrow or that they are playing for a draw here.

Both Gambhir and him starting showing more positive intent at the end of the day's play and got quick 25 runs or so in a match where every run is crucial. They might have gotten more if Ashwin had managed to hit a few more shots like the six he did.

Also, Ashwin is primarily a bowler and was the second batsman only to get into double digits this innings. When better batsmen were getting out edging trying to defend, don't see a major problem in what he did tbh.

The shot selection and choice of bowler to attack was obv wrong though.
