This is such an interesting list in that you would've only seen two of them live. It shows that you derive equal or more likely even greater pleasure from reading about cricket as you do watching or following it in action. There's nothing wrong with that of course - quite the contrary really, as it speaks volumes for the different ways us fans can enjoy the game and fit our interest in it into whatever mould our other interests dictate - but very interesting all the same.

I have great admiration for (particularly) the likes of Grace, Goddard and Imran, but they wouldn't get anywhere near my favourite eleven personally as I've got a lot more personal joy out of watching and following players live.

EDIT: Three rather than two if you mean Nick rather than Denis.

Wanted to post my list but realized there would be only players from the last three years.

Ponting followed by Prior I reckon.

Admire Smith in terms of grittiness but he's not someone I'd pay to watch really.

Here's a list of many writers' favorite cricketers;
My Favourite Cricketer | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

Les Favell seems to be very popular and charismatic, wish I knew more about the man.

It seems a shame that there was no 20/20 in his day. He seems an absolute natural for it.

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta
