The India and Pakistan combined ATG Thread : Open Voting

With Imran at No.6 the team will probably end up with a 4 man pace attack and a single spin bowler.

If Mushtaq is in the team you could pair him with Saqlain, maintain a strong middle-order batting line-up, and still have 3 ATG quicks to knock over the opposition's top order. IMO a 3-2 combination is inherently stronger than a 4-1 which tends to be repetitive and is less adaptive to pitch conditions.

On the other hand, you could shorten the tail by playing Kapil Dev. The best keeper Syed Kirmani would then be able to be played. For example;

06. Imran Khan
07. Kapil Dev
08. Syed Kirmani
09. Wasim Akram
10. Bishan Bedi
11. Bhagwath Chandrasekhar

This team needs all of imran, akram, waqar and kapil to form the pace attack and one spinner to support them. Not too many batting line-ups can dominate this attack. If dhoni keeps wickets and bats at no. 7 the batting is good enough to withstand any opposition.

These are confirmed so far, and there is a tie between Imran and Inzamam for the 6th spot from what I counted.

In that case the 6th spot should go to Imran because none of those specialist batsman bowl (I don't think that Sehwag's offies count). The team would be very much confined to a 4-man attack and therefore disadvantaged relative to the other ATG teams.

can I change my vote for Azhar and vote Inzi?

I really don't see how an SC XI will survive against a good quality opposition with only 5 frontline batsmen?

the first two picks are easy.

Tendulkar
Miandad

the next one is tough. Imran Khan is porbably batting too high at 6, but if Dev and a good keeper/batsman are selected I think it may be manageable. Therfore..

Imran Khan to bat at 6

If only Sanga was Ind-Pak the team would have great balance. I might be tempted to pick Inzi @6 and get Kapil for Waqar. Waqar real value is with the old ball but with Imran and Wasin already there that area seems to be covered. Also Kapil could do the role of the workhorse allowing Wasim and Imran to keep charging in whenever they are required.

There's no way you could leave Waqar out.

I'd rather Waqar in than Kapil, with Imran down at 7 or 8, and the attack being

Wasim
Waqar
Imran
Spinner

Will change my vote for #6 from Imran to Inzamam

It seems we have these options available now-

1. Sunil Gavaskar
2. Virender Sehwag
3. Rahul Dravid
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Javed Miandad
6. Imran Khan / Inzamam / Imran / Mushtaq
7. Kapil Dev / Imran Khan / Engineer / Imran
8. Syed Kirmani / Syed Kirmani / Wasim / Kirmani
9. Wasim Akram / Wasim / Waqar / Wasim
10. Waqar Younis / Waqar / A Spinner / Waqar
11. A Spinner / A Spinner / 2nd Spinner / A Spinner

For first option, along with Imran, Wasim and Waqar, Kapil's addition is a bit overkill for me. For second option, fifth bowler is an issue. For third option, there is not much batting depth in the line up although bowling combination is great with frontline 3 pace and 2 spin options. Fourth option is the best combination because the team has got everything and can't find any weakness there. Just my two cents.

I agree. Your option 4 is the most balanced team. You've got the 3 'must have' fast-bowlers, 2 contrasting spinners, the best keeper to come out of Asia, and excellent batting depth. Still miss Kapil Dev though. Legend.

Note: If anyone can find some video of Mushtaq Mohammed bowling then that would be great.
