spinner experts: how hard would it be for Tastle to gain 2-5kph and still retain some control? As we were all going on about yesterday he's just a tad too lobby atm.

I'm sure he could bowl quicker through the air if he wanted to, but he'd not put enough on the ball to trouble anyone if he was doing that, tbh.

To bowl quicker through the air and still get the amount of spin both through the air and off the pitch he gets currently, he'd have to become a better bowler.

Well, that's a point of view, although I'm trying to recollect if any other medium-pacer of his speed (120-125 clicks) has ever done well in Australia.

Ah well, he still has plenty of time. 26 is young for a spinner and he's only been a full time bowler for 3 years. I'm sure he'll take note of stuff that he needs to improve after this test.

Matthews is harvesting the strike and we need to put a stop to this.

Should be more difficult for him to do that vs the new ball though

Asif wasn't bowling much quicker than that in Sydney last time Pakistan toured and he absolutely cleaned up. Corey Collymore had a reasonably good tour against a **** hot batting lineup bowling at a meagre pace too a while ago if IIRC.

Moreover, as a counter point, I certainly can't recall a bowler as outright crap as Suranga Lakmal being successful in Australia either. There's no point selecting poor man's versions of what your opposition can supply; that's basically just accepting your inferiority and conceding defeat. They'd be far better off backing the quality players they do have and hoping they can adapt to adapt to the conditions. You can't out-Australia Australia.

Great innings from Mathews, but geez, what a road.

Fantastic perseverance from our bowlers.

Let's bring it home after tea.

need all 3 with the new ball. bowling with the old ball takes time and Mathews is good at shielding.
