When Tendulkar was captain, and it was his duty to report to press conferences and post match ceremonies, he did.

I for one thought that was a very cool, likable side of his. And I thought I am not the only one.

Usually reporters can request someone and the teams will make them available. That should be part and parcel of playing the game.
You mean like the exact thing that happens in cricket? Except in this case the media asked for Tendulkar time and time again and he was not forthcoming.

Well in the NFL you are required - you are fined. I think there have been instances of a coach being fined when he didn't show up to a post game conference after losing.

Yeah and I'm sure if the Indian team didn't meet their tour press expectations i.e. send someone for a post game presser, they'd get fined. There's just no rule saying India can't send Ashwin out for every single press conference.

You get fined at Wimbledon too, if you don't show up to the post match presser.

Yea, that's why I said Tendulkar was an ass (along with the other seniors).

There's far less interest in the others because not many did the job on the field so it seems reasonable to assume that the large majority of press requests would have been for the legend of the game on his last tour sitting on 99 international tons, no? More attention/interest means he's far more conspicuous by his absence, especially since he's not ducked the media in the past.

This is the point; you don't automatically get a press conference in your honour, it's requested. So for it to not happen, a request needs to be turned down. It's perfectly reasonable to ask why the bloke with all the interest in him does so and if the response is "He doesn't owe anybody anything.", criticism happens.
If that is the case, I agree with you guys.
