Well.
Can't believe anyone would argue differently tbh. He also looked the most likely to bowl pies and get hammered of course but he always looked like he could bowl a jaffa and take a wicket.

If he's going to bowl like that every Test then he shouldn't be playing but he also showed why people rate him.

He should do until we find a our next spinner.
He seemed to change the way he bowled when the tail came in trying to buy wickets but Starc got into a very good rhythm against him. At least he can bat unlike a certain Tahir who also opens a gourmet pie shop when he comes on.

MacGill really is just god. GET HIM IN, NINE! His commentary in the 2009 (?) on SBS was great.

Series ratings:

Warner 6 - scored a ton, not that much else.
Cowan 6 - ditto.
Quiney 1 - two tests and didn't really do anything.
Ponting 1 - made the right call to go
Clarke 10 - just wow.
Hussey 9 - still gun at 37.
Wade 4 - decent innings at Perth, not much else. Not good with the gloves.
Siddle 6 - trier. Not a standout but did well enough.
Hilfenhaus 4 - lacked effectiveness against the best bowlers. Why we need McDermott back.
Pattinson 5 - only bowled in three innings
Lyon 6 - bowled with guts at times. Wouldn't want to bowl like the 2nd innings at Perth though.
Watson 5 - nothing good. Nothing bad either though.
Johnson 6 - was generally pretty good at Perth, although didn't have the same impact that he could've had.
Starc 6.5 - not a great 5-fer but it was the most wickets in one innings. Bonus points for his batting.
Hastings 1 - won't forget the 2nd innings quickly.
Smith 7 - some good innings although was somewhat overshadowed.
A Peterson 6 - got his sides decent starts.
Amla 9 - 2 centuries is always a good look.
Kallis 9 - he did it with injury, too.
De Villiers 8 - they should really give someone else the gloves.
Rudolph 2 - didn't really add anything.
Duminy n/a - sadly got injured before he could anything.
Kleinveldt 3 - one good spell, not much else otherwise.
Philander 3 - generally seemed ineffective.
Steyn 6 - pretty meh compared to usual.
Morkel 7 - didn't bowl so awesome but still took wickets.
Du Plessis 10 - saved Adelaide and changed the course of Perth. This was despite it being his first series. Christ.
R Peterson 7.5 - helped change the course of Perth and took some crucial wickets. Pretty good test IMO.
Tahir 0 - hahahahaha
Elgar 0 - when Johnson owns you....

Think maybe Hussey rated too highly. He played his role well in the first two tests but came in when the bowling was already a bit ragged. In Perth he struggled with the extra pace and more switched on bowlers.

Single-handedly is a bit inaccurate, Smith did his bit.
