His big frame and muscling it down, into the breeze there's not much difference between what he can do with it. Now, they might be putting too much stock into the WACA conditions, but with his size, he can get away with not being all that quick, especially on a deck that provides bounce.

It was a fantastic last over. Steyn must have been inches from knocking Lyon's helmet off. Takes a strong ticker to then jump onto the front foot again.

You never watched him bowl before Ruckus?

Prince and Vic explained it well above. Never looks all that threatening, however he bowls long spells of pitching the ball in the right areas to take wickets. Keeps things very simple.

I don't believe he will forge much of a Test career. As a support bowler for Starc and Johnson he makes a good selection.
Oh right, didn't realise that's who they were talking about.

I've seen him bowl before in most of the ODs he played, but haven't payed much attention to him in shield.

Even in the ODI's he rarely gets much above 130.

Without going into the same tired argument - classic bowler of the "heavy" ball.

On Hastings, if he bowls like he did to get AB on a regular basis (the ball itself and the set-up), he'll play quite a few more Tests.

Serious unit, the boy. Ticks a lot of the "mental image of how Aussie seamers should look" boxes.

I seriously don't know what people were watching if they think this is a 225ao deck.

It just isn't.

Yeah maybe that's why I had that image of him then. Thought he was more a mid-high 130's bowler.

Yeah that's true, but unfortunately the swing wasn't consistent at all, and only came in fleeting moments.

Reflection of the day
As Ponting was practising his slips catches on the field, preparing for his final Test, it was notable that the man hitting the ball to him was Stuart Law, Australia's acting batting coach. Law and Ponting made their Test debuts together at the WACA 17 years ago and both men scored half-centuries. In fact, they put on 121 together for the fifth wicket against Sri Lanka, a partnership that ended when Ponting was wrongly given lbw for 96. Law finished on 54 not out. He did not play another Test. Ponting is now taking part in his 168th. On the first morning of this match, Law could have been forgiven for wondering what might have been.
Makes you think doesn't it. For all the talent, skill, hard work and mental strength...there's a lot of Luck that goes into the making of a legend.
