Anyone know anything about Ayabulela Gqamane?

Started well in franchise cricket. But quality doesn't seem overly high as Justin Kemp is still taking wickets and van der Wath just hit 150.
We've spoken about Gqamane in the thread already. An all-rounder who bowls a steady 134-137 and has a sharpish bouncer. Those were Davy Jacobs words on live updates on Super Sport Blitz & I agree with that on what I saw in the One-Day Cup.

The pitch moved around at Newlands & Kemp is playing more as a seamer these days and a senior figure. Newlands is difficult with a bit of nibble as we saw with Philander and Watson in a test match.

Quite shocked about Rambo's hundred but looking at the scorecard it seems a new ball wicket for the first couple of days. As we saw 19 year-old debutatant Savage score 50 in at 9 and get a big partnership with number 8 Kyle Abbott.

SA Schools XI

Wesley Coulentianos (18) GAUENG - St Johns
Diego Rosier (18) GRIQUAS - Noordkaap - Captain
Shaylen Pillay (18) GAUTENG - KES
Greg Oldfield (17) KZN INLAND - Michaelhouse
Jason Smith (18) WESTERN PROVINCE - Wynberg
Vasili Orros (18) - FREE STATE - Grey Bloem
Clyde Fortuin (17) - WESTERN PROVINCE - St Josephs - keeper
Shaakir Abrahams (18) Eastern Province - Grey PE - spinner
Craig Kirsten (18) KZN COASTAL - Kearsney
Daryn Dupavillon (18) KZN INLAND - Maritzburg College
Ngazibini Sigwili (17) BORDER - Hudson Park
The standouts would be Pillay & Rosier who were part of the last u19 WC. But the 3 new names to watch out for would be Oldfield, Dupavillon & Kirsten. All 3 are Natal boys and if you think Bowes, Subrayen & Savage are in the Dolphins set-up from the last SA u19 group it looks like Durban & PMB are starting to produce cricketers of quality again.

Cobras and Warriors won by 10 wickets, bowling first the right choice in both cases?
Lions out for 59 in 30 overs in their second innings, Gqamane'd.

I'm surprised he's that dominant at that speed. From videos he's also pretty short. What makes him so hard to play?

looking at the score card, i can only guess that he bowls straight. you miss i hit. and if the ball does anything slightly he is in business. and yeah i did notice he is short. but his performances are really eye popping now.

I see Subrayen got busted for a dodgy action. I know there were some dissenting voices from the English guys after the u19 WC about this guys actiion.

If Subrayen throws the ball, then many other spinners have. But I commend the path CSA have taken and Subrayen with the other talented quick man Nqweni will be back in no time. The positive is that they are both only 19.

Here is what CSA released -

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) has decided to place two young bowlers, Prenelan Subrayen of KwaZulu-Natal and Solomzi Nqweni of Eastern Province, under rehabilitation. They will consequently not be permitted to bowl in first-class cricket for this period as their actions have been deemed to be illegal following two independent tests.

These tests were carried out by the Australian Institute of Sport and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa at the request of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after their actions came under scrutiny at the ICC under-19 World Cup in Australia in August.

“There is a standard protocol we have for dealing with matters of this nature,” commented Corrie van Zyl, CSA General Manager: Cricket. “In the case of Prenelan the situation has been complicated by the fact that he suffered a bad dislocation of his bowling shoulder several years ago and this has contributed to the current problem. He thus needs to undergo both shoulder rehabilitation as well as rehabilitation of his bowling action.

“The two provinces will take charge of the rehab process of their players. CSA will make all its facilities available to assist the process, including the High Performance Centre and its personnel. There will also be input available from the Sports Science Institute of South Africa.

“We have every confidence that the rehab process will be successful and that these two talented young cricketers will be able to continue their promising careers in the near future,” concluded Van Zyl.

KZNCU CEO Jesse Chellan commented: “We fully support the procedure that CSA is carrying out. During this time Prenelan will continue to be involved in cricket as a batsman and will play in this capacity at the franchise Cubs Week next month.”

EP Cricket CEO Dave Emslie commented: “This proactive move by CSA is to be applauded. They have shown utmost professionalism in their handling of the matter. I am confident that with their assistance in the rehabilitation of these players they will both emerge better cricketers and be able to continue their promising careers unabated.”

The following is the basic timeline for the rehab programme that will be followed to correct their actions:

•The players will be receiving intensive coaching of their bowling actions
•The players will be re-tested as soon as the panel of bowling experts working with the players feel the bowler is fully rehabilitated

Brilliant footage from the Awards dinner at the Coke Week and the last days play.

COKE WEEK WRAP - FINAL DAYS HIGHLIGHTS - YouTube

SA SCHOOLS TEAM

Back Row - MIKE BECHET ,Greg Oldfield, Anrich Nortje, Jason Smith, WAYNE PARNELL, Craig Kirsten, Vasili Orros, Shaylen Pillay

Front Row - Daryn Dupavillon, Clyde Fortuin, Shaakir Abrahams, Ngazibini Sigwili, Wesley Coulentianos, Diego Rosier, SHAHEED KHAN

SA COLTS TEAM

Forgetting the coaches on either side and Wayne Parnell at the back in the middle.

Back Row - Yaseen Valli (LHB & SLA spin), Kyle Simmonds (SLA spin , rhb), David Bedingham (rhb & captain), Kagiso Rabada (right-arm quick), Corbin Bosch (right-arm quick), Justin Dill (right-arm seam & rhb), Tian Koekemoer (lhb opening bat)

Front row - Kirwin Christoffels (LH opening bat), Hayes Van der Berg (RH top order bat, right-arm seam), Sohail Mahmoud (right-arm leg-spin), Mpheto Bidli (keeper), Jean Heunis (rhb)

I expect the majority of the squad for England to come from the above plus Solo Nqweni (if eligible), Murray Coetzee, Jan Frylinck and Lizaad Williams.

I would say Jurie Snyman, Dayyaan Galiem, Bradley Dial and a few others would also be chasing spots for the England tour. If not then the u19 WC next year in Feb 2014 in Dubai for sure.

Interesting 12-man squad chosen for NZL game starting tomorrow. None of the players in the franchise 13-14 man 4-day squads were considered.

I would have liked to have seen Chad Bowes, Thomas Kaber & Corne Dry in there though.

SQUAD

Rassie Van der Dussen (North West)
Matthew Kleinveldt (WP)
Keegan Pietersen (Boland)
Colin Ackermann (EP)
Pite Van Biljon (FS)
Uwe Birkenstock (Boland)
Brad Barnes (WP) - keeper
Shaun Liebisch (Easterns) - Spin
Siya Simetu (WP) - Spin
Travis Muller (WP)
Petrus Jeftha (Boland)
Gino Vries (FS)

Particularly interested to see how Van der Dussen, Pietersen, Ackermann, Simetu & Muller do.

Marcello Piedt doing very well in the 3-day stuff. Should get a call up to franchise cricket very soon.
Going to be tough with Parnell, Birch, Theron, Ntini, Walters, Gqamane and Nqweni (when he overcomes action problems) all ahead of him. The Warriors have good bowling depth if you include spinner Simon Harmer but its their batting that lets them down big time.

Cubs week starts tomorrow in Stellenbosch I think or day after tomorrow. 13-man squads with SA u19 squad v England picked at end of the week. The 6 franchise u19 teams all play one another. Some players not eligible for next u19 WC in Dubai in Feb 2014.

Pillay, Rosier, Coetzee, Subaryen,Williams, Frylinck, Moore & Nqweni are all still eligible for the England tour who were part of the last WC squad.

Former SA cricketers Tertius Bosch & Mark Rushmere have their sons involved. Corbin Bosch of the Titans and Andrew Rushmere of the Warriors.

Only really Leus Du Plooy of Affies, Northerns and Titans is the major omission but will play in the next cubs week in time for WC selection. 15 year old Murray Commins (son of former SA test bat John Commins) could get a look in as well if he has a good year as a late bolter for next u19 WC. You would think the majority of that squad will come from these squads.

Marcello Piedt doing very well in the 3-day stuff. Should get a call up to franchise cricket very soon.

He may get his debut tomorrow in the 4-day game v Titans. A few injuries (Parnell, Theron, Birch) has opened his way a bit.

The Chevrolet Warriors travel to Pretoria for their 7th Sunfoil 4 day Series match against the Nashua Titans starting on Thursday 3 January.
There are three changes to the team which sees the inclusion of SWD players Adrian McLaren and Marcello Piedt. Experienced batsman McLaren has just come off a double hundred and has 20 career hundreds behind him. Marecello Piedt has had an outstanding season with the ball and will bolster the bowling attack. Colin Ingram also returns to the team. Jon-Jon Smuts has struggled this season and has been left out as well.
Andrew Birch has a knee injury and is unavailable.

The squad is as follows:
Michael Price
Davy Jacobs (Capt)
Ashwell Prince
Arno Jacobs
Colin Ingram
Simon Harmer
Aya Gqamane
Christiaan Jonker
Basheer Walters
Gurshwin Rabie
Adrian McLaren
Marcello Piedt
Colin Ackermann

Maynard hasn't been impressed with the 4-day performances this season and may decide to blood a few youngsters this season. Maynard concedes title is all but lost - SuperSport - Cricket

Also asked him on twitter whether Thomas Kaber ,the 20-year old chinaman bowler, is on their radar and he said he is and its a big season for him.

Good stuff.
Picked up 5 wickets in the amateur win over Easterns for Northerns where seamers seemed to be favoured. Also took them over the line with the bat with a 20*. Hopefully we see him in the Titans line-up to be given an opportunity sooner rather then later.
