Show me where I said he shouldn't be picked? All I said was how come one innings is enough to say he's now in form when the last 2 years have suggested something opposite from that. I was highlighting your double standards regarding form.

No, he's been actually averaging less in ODIs than Tests over the last 2 years...

Two hundreds and a fifty in his last 6 "innings that matter" (Internationals and FC) and yet you say he is still out of form. If that's not a bloody compliment, I don't know what it is!

    Have a good Sunday evening.

tbf Morgan and Samit have both had worse FC seasons with the bat, and they're still in so..

I would ideally keep Rahane in the squad and drop Sehwag for Yuvi.. and have Badri as the cover middle order batsman.
We miss you, Fardin. :(. RIP.

Root gone for 24 in the England reply with Compton still there on 16* off 48. Needs to make it count if he's to give himself any chance.

Looks as if Sammy ran through the Mumbai "A" tail too; 3/44 to go with his 60 in the first knock. Making a pretty compelling case for inclusion, IMHO.

Can't be arsed linking but read an article on cricinfo yesterday that suggested Flower and Cook had basically ruled out opening with Trott or Bell, so I'd reckon Compton will be in the box seat in he can even get to 50 here while looking reasonably assured. It's an extremely tame attack by any standards so he really should be able to if he's in any sort of nick at all.

Haven't checked the score in about 10 minutes, mind, so he's probably already out or something.

Should point out that Root getting the best batsman on the opposition (by some distance) out could work in his favour. Bowled more than Samit (whose three wickets all came against the bottom four..) here, so his offies may even allow Bairstow to play ahead of Patel if he's preferred to Compton as opener.

Wouldn't him bowling more than Patel be due to the main spin bowler being Panesar and looking for a bit of variety?

I don't think that sort of stuff really applies to warmups, tbh. They wouldn't waste overs on Root unless the thought of him getting through a few in the Tests had crossed their minds.
