i have not seen a single english fan say that the quality of umpiring hasn't been great. they just bring up udrs to protect the umpires.

Quite possibly because we know the system works and umpires are human and make mistakes. They aren't robots who will be correct 100% of the time so if you go without the extras you need to take the rough with the smooth.
