That single Compton got last over is just what England never do, use their feet to work the ball for singles. It's either, block or whack usually.

Totally agree wpdavid. The thing is we all know that Compton will be the one dropped when we inevitably get hammered. I am not convinced by him but I do think he has been given a very short straw by making him open when he isn't an opener. Trouble is you would be throwing in Root who probably is 12 months short of being ready anyway.

Yeah, truth in that, no doubt.

Don't want to knock a tyro on debut, but I think we can probably say Nick is no Denis Compton.

You can only piss with the cock you have and all that.

Compton's defense against spin reminds me of Jamie How.

Front foot, smother the ****er.

Yeesh, that'd have looked bad if he'd got out to that. Pushing way past the body.

Two nice shots by Captain Cook. Need to at least get a decent score here and give the team something to cling to for the remainder of the series no matter how small the crumb of comfort may be.

I'd be amazed if we don't lose 4-0 to be honest as we just can't play spin at all but it would be nice to see certain players have learnt and found a way of playing through the series instead of doing what we did in UAE and India did in England and Australia by starting badly and getting worse as time goes on.

Lol.

Imagine Denis found better use for his than mere micturation, tbf.

His grandson does at least share his illustrious forebear's good looks tho, if that's not too metrosexual a comment, so maybe he cuts a similar swathe with the fairer sex.
