So those posts do nothing to temper your opinion that the idea of picking Yuvi ahead of Crowe at number 4 is a ridiculous idea?
Of course not, why would 3-4 Indian's asserting Yuvi was a better bat than Martin Crowe temper my opinion in the slightest?

My combined Ind-NZ ODI side -

Sachin
McCullum
Kohli
Crowe (vc)
Yuvi
MSD (wk) (c)
Vettori
Kapil
Hadlee
Zaheer
Kumble
There is no way McCullum is making any alltime side in any circumstance as a specialist bat.

Tendulkar
Guptill
Williamson
Kohli
Yuvrag Singh
Dhoni (c) (wk)
Cairns
Kapil Dev
Hadlee
Harbhajan Singh
Bond

Sharma close to making the team. Yuvrag over Taylor for the extra bowling, plus he is more suited to no.5. Vettori's record against top 8 sides no longer looks as impressive as compared to Harbhajan's.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah but when you are picking these AT sides you can give certain leeway to certain types of players given the talent around them and stuff. I fee McCullum can do amazing damage even if he only comes off twice in 5 games, given the talent the side has with ATGs like Kohli, Crowe, Yuvi, MSD following them and then all rounders of the calibre of Kapil, Hadlee etc. I picked Kumble and Zak for the variety tbh.

How'd he calculate the Bowling Quality index? Thought Hutton would be a lock for the Australia tour XI since almost all his runs came against some combination of Miller/Lindwall/Johnson/Benaud

I think when we look at the top tens he's put into the article some of the choices seem particularly biased towards the writers opinion. However to be in the top ten says that player A & B may have similar numbers then he chosen his favorites amongst them.

On the bowling index it looks far less in depth as the batting and even the description of it is underwhelming. Basically just says likes bowling averages and leaves it at that.

Yeah it's pretty poorly explained. Have no idea how those numbers he derived came from.

Problem with all his articles really. He's awful.

If I read Anantha Narayanan's articles all the way through, I'd probably have started hating cricket by now.

Gets Dravid to bat at 6, or Pointing at 5... Anything goes....

I think you should look at the tables and choose your own teams.

Didn't Punter bat from six originally, averaging high in that position? If you have a Bradman, Tendulkar, Lara or Greg Chappell at three/four it makes reasonable sense to chuck Ponting there considering we are in the realm of fictitious 'dream' scenarios.

I always like his articles personally. Very thorough statistically mind, very nerdy: you cannot skim read and have to set aside an hour to read the things infact - and, recall your high school mathematics!

Am okay with the stats part. He does that pretty well. Straight. Uncomplicated. And he explains it well. When subjectivity comes in, I start disagreeing with him.

Yeah but he is entitled to his opinion though... I generally dont look at the sides he chooses as any big deal, but I am generally interested in the tables and stuff to find out how certain players have done over the years with all these criteria.

No point picking Cairns at 7 when Kapil is 8 and Hadlee 9. I'd rather have more economical bowling (and a different style) by picking Oram or Harris at 7. Otherwise Kapil 7, Hadlee 8, Mills 9.

I'd have Cairns as a batsman and bowler over Harris or Oram though

As a batsman yes, as a bowler no.

Harris e/r 4.28 and the best fieldsman produced by NZ
Oram e/r 4.38
Carris e/r 4.84

Also Harris and Oram were much better in the middle overs than CC. Since Hadlee, Bond and Kapil would get the new ball I'd want a better middle over bowler than Cairnsy.

Cairns odi bowling was pretty overrated, oram was better.

Lol at people picking mccullum ahead of Guptill. Guptill is just so much better and actually has more x- factor.
