The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Is it at all possible to find an All time Asian 11 thread on this site? A search of Asian all time 11 didn't yield anything and I haven't got the time to read all 127 pages of this thread, but for sure you guys have done this before.

Would swap Miandad with Younis by the time he's finished, probably.

I won't attempt to name the teams but I asked the previous because I was curious who would win in a comp between the Pacific Ocean (Australia and New Zealand), The Indian Ocean (Pakistan Sri Lanka, India) and the Atlantic Ocean (England, South Africa and the West Indies). I'm thinking this is now a bracketing that Bradman can't make up for. Not sure if this should be another thread, but don't want to detract from the bowling and fielding GOATs at the moment.

An ANZAC team is basically just Australia + Hadlee. Atlantic would probably win there, with the pace of the Windies combined with one of England's spinners, Knott, English openers and a SA-WI middle order.

Why does SA make the Atlantic Ocean team and not the Indian Ocean one? Same goes for Western Australia.

Indian Ocean team = India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Eastern South Africa, Western Australia.

Atlantic Ocean team = England & Wales, West Indies, Western South Africa.

Pacific Ocean team = New Zealand, Eastern Australia.

Team Dehydration = Zimbabwe.

Hemispheric team would make as much sense, so North verse South
Southern team Aus, SA, NZ, Zim
Northern team Eng, WI, India, Pak, SL

If you look at ICC stats for top 100 peak scores
Southern team has 42 in batting and 43 in bowling
Northern team has 48 batting and 47 in bowling

If the 70's era SA players weren't effected by bans, the balance would be better.

Southern Team -A side without a tail, number 10 with 25 batting average,
Hayden
G Smith (B Richards strong chance except for lack of tests, Lawry, Simpson and maybe Warner in the next 5 years)
Bradman
G Pollock
G Chappell
Kallis
Flower/Gilchrist/ABD - too many choices for keeper\batsman
Miller
Hadlee
Davidson
Warne

(although tempted to drop Chappell and put S Pollock between Miller and Hadlee at 8, and would love to find a place for Mike Procter in the lower middle order)

Could chuck Procter in for Davidson if you want.

Watson referenced David Gower's list in another thread and I subsequently looked it up and was reading some of it online. When I was reading Hammond's write up, I was a bit surprised to read that he was described as a more aggressive batting version of Kallis.

I had previously read from at least a couple of sources that his strike rate was probably in the low 40's at best.

I also noted that I belive it was coronis who referenced a source that estimated his s/r was in the mid 50's.
Genuinely wonder which of these estimates does everyone believe is closer to reality.

Trying to think of the best way to have Warne and Murali in the same team, just love the idea of having it spinning both ways from opposite ends.

Hobbs
Sutcliffe
Bradman*
Tendulkar
Sobers
Gilchrist+
Imran
Marshall
Warne
Muralitharan
McGrath

Imran in over Hadlee to shore up the batting with the loss of Hammond.

With Sobers and Hammond, you don't need 3 specialist pacers. That way you don't weaken the batting and your cordon.
