Australian bowling attacks are based on how fast you bowl, not bowling records.

Faulkner not that far off ODI and T20I squads. If he scored more runs he would probably jump ahead of Dan Christian in the peaking order in Tests.

Though as soon as Mitch Marsh can put two good games together he will jump ahead of them all, purely on potential.

Just say no to Butterworth and/or Falkner in a baggy green. Pedestrian swang.

And this match looks like being yet another example of why SA are cod ordinary as a Shield side; so many blow-ins, they're more likely to win or save a game away from AO!

Was going to say that Punter's stiff being shunted out to third slip for Tassie.

Then I realised it was the old "put your best fielder where the ball will go" tactic.

Wherever Ponting is, he's the best fielder. His grandkids are going to be the best catchers ever, can imagine him with a Katchet in the backyard still humming them in at 60. Man's a freak.

I watched the other tassie game and he was at third there aswell. Reckon it would just be him being perfectly comfortable literally anywhere, so give them mere mortals a chance wherever they think they're best.

Clem Alderman wasn't the worst either, especially on Ashes tours. Would have loved to see what Butts or Copes might have done on the A tour.

Both of those guys are more likely to significant seam movement, though. Early days especially, Alderman got huge swing and seam and was still a touch quicker than Falkner/Butters even post-shoulder injury.

True about Clem being a bigger swinger, although it was his stump to stump stuff that left Gooch a babbling mess in 89. Not sure about him being quicker though (at least not post shoulder). Not a huge amount in it I'd wager, but just going off memories of a long time ago more than anything.

On a completely different note though, well done P Siddy on your further development as a lower order bat. Great to see a bowler how puts a high price on his wicket and can chip in with handy runs.
