Has the # 6 position become the WK slot in Shield?

Haddin, Paine & Handscomb so far this year?

Edit: Is Finch injured as Handscomb now batting at 5?

Haddin, Paine and Wade have been batting at six for most of their careers.

Handscomb is batsmen who keeps, so it not surprising he bats in the top 6.

If the other keepers could bat better, they would probably be batting at 6, unless the side has a batting all rounder.

Such a dominate day 1 for the Vics. Love how McDonald murders state attacks these days.

WA are still SO frustrating, Mitch Marsh has the 9th highest first class batting average in the team and has a lower bowling average than Johnson, Rimmington and Hogan. Not sure he is the answer at 6 just yet.

Maybe not, but he's a PONI and therefore has the spot the Australian selectors want him to have. I still reckon he'll come good this year though.

Or he could drop down the order like Henriques has, and actually earn a spot in the state top 6. Obviously he's not the only bat struggling, so its not a big issue yet.

Andrew Robinson is batting cautiously to date, 0 from 32 balls.

Looks a typical early season Gabba wicket with plenty in it for the bowlers.

Unfortunately Triffit isn't a good enough bat for 6, and you'd want to play 4 specialist bowlers and Marsh. Doesn't leave them much choice.

He made a 60 in the first Shield game, didn't he?

I think so. Just found it crazy that he's got the 9th best average in the team.

Cricinfo currently has Colin Miller's stats for Brockley's mate Sammy. Think he and SA would take Colin's bowling record.

Across the 6 states from players who are playing/played in their states last match, how many batsman do you think have scored 8 or more first class centuries?

I'm guessing between 10-15. But bear in mind the T20 squad has another 4.

Yeah its 12. Sounds a little low for mine, a few experienced batsman with 7 tons, which is why I chose 8 I guess.

The 12 are:
NSW - Clarke, Haddin
TAS - Ponting, Cosgrove, Cowan
Vic - Rogers, McDonald
WA - North, Voges
QLD - Khawaja
SA - Hughes, Klinger

In the Aus T20 squad Watson, Mussey, Dussey, White and Bailey all have over 8.

EDIT - my main point was that only Cosgrove, Khawaja, Hughes and White are under 30.

Interesting that Hauritz has the 12th man duties for QLD. Glad to see Boyce being given first crack at the spinners spot.

Just browsing cricinfo and noticed Henriques had a cracking game for NSW. 200 plus runs and 3 wickets.

Seemed to be hyped a lot a few years ago. He does have a good technique and should mature as a batsman in the next year or two. Could be a chance to take a middle order spot when Ponting and/or Hussey retire.

Should be pushing to bat higher up the NSW order now. Pointless having a 25yo batting after Haddin. Should be up around 4 or 5.

NSW did the right thing batting Henriques down at 7. That's the position his record warranted him to bat. However, yeah he's started sensationally, so hopefully he can continue doing well when NSW next play first class cricket in a months time.

Re: Usman, he has batted so well.

Anything short and he just punishes it. These are tough conditions, he just loves playing SACA.

Lot of love for Khawaja. Think he's got what it takes to be a very good test player.
