    Left handed XI

I'm bored. I'm at work, and I need to be, but I don't actually have any work to do. So forgive me if you don't want to discuss left handed ATG XIs, or join in the fun (boredom relief) if you do....

Pollock ahead of Harvey (EDIT: or Sanga). Also Arthur Morris needs to open.

Bill Johnston or Bruce Reid are probably the next best seamers...

I agree, someone (?Sanga) should make way for Pollock.

Not a fan of either Hayden or Morris. Hayden even less so.

Lawry to bat with Fredericks or Anwar or Smith or Bardsley or Edrich?

From 1946 to 1950 Morris averaged 67.78 against relatively weak attacks. The only bowler of note was Alec Bedser. Both Voce and DVP Wright were ageing and Laker was still learning his trade.

But in the following 27 Tests till he retired in 1955 Morris averaged only 34.76. In my opinion the prime reason for this significant decline in average was the improvement in bowling. Laker transformed himself, and had Lock and Wardle to back him up. Voce was replaced with Tyson, Trueman, Statham and Bailey.

In other words, the only reason that Morris has a decent average, one befitting an ATG, is that he was able to plunder mediocre bowling. But when real pressure was applied he was nothing out of the ordinary. Just a good batsman.

If some one has to make way for Pollock, it is neither Sanga, Lara nor Sobers. Others can be left out for them.
