Well the bowlers union have their say
Anderson Kevin talked about having issues within the dressing room. What’s frustrating is that this was, literally, the first we knew about it. Kevin has mentioned nothing to us. Broad 'Certainly within the four walls, I wouldn't have thought there was a problem. Swann I'd just say that, if there were issues, we pride ourselves on having a very open dressing room and he certainly didn't mention any problems to anyone else.’ Bresnan "I was very surprised when he said those things in his press conference at the end of the Leeds game, and I think a few of the other lads were as surprised as I was. "I didn't feel anything had changed inside the dressing-room - there was no bickering, no fighting, there was nothing."Personally I've got no problem with Kevin. Then Prior had that talk with KP and in his unretirement video said he was now fine with the dressing room and couldn't wait to get back. Then the texts to some SA players..... Wonder what the dressing room will be like when he returns?

It's a peculiar piece for Oborne to write. Now I usually lean towards the "only good Tory is a dead Tory" style of old-school unreconstructed leftism, but I have a lot of time for him. He's from the anglican, paternalistic, one-nation wing of conservatism and has campaigned at various times against Apartheid and Israel's occupation of Palestine, so could arguably be said to be somewhat to the left of New Labour on some important issues. He also noteably wrote a wholly excellent (and, if not definitive, then certainly the tome against which future efforts will be judged) biography of Basil D'Oliveira, who represented Blighty with great honour and no little skill, so for him to say:

His article ignores SA-born players like Robin Smith, who was one of the bravest and least selfish players to wear the three lions when I was a young shaver, for no other reason than Judgey doesn't seem to fit the ugly Saffer archetype he's constructed. For my money the thing that unites Greig & Pietersen could just as easily be that they're avaricious arseholes, not that they're South African.

Can't imagine too many of the England players or cricketers in general ever having too many fights ever, probably won't know how to. |
