Thanks for bringing to light Yovich's wares as a first-class opener, the prodigious medium-pace talent of Brandon Hiini and various others that fitted in with your wonderfully attractive brand of small ball, Bradburn.

We'll remember you for looking at really raw but potentially rewarding hard yakka like Kuggs and Mathieson and saying 'nah too hard; I'm just a nude off-spinner of a bland commercial temperament' and shipping them off to be someone else's problem. I have to agree with Howsie Bradburn succeeded in making "the moribund domestic game" even more moribund tbh.

Don't forget persisting with some of the worst batsmen in the Shield while your Hawke Cup sides pile on 500+ every game.

Yovich as a FC opener was a partial success. Last two seasons 1114 runs @ 31.8, that's more runs and higher average than his opening partner Brad Wilson. You could argue that by keeping Yovich / James Marshall in the teram, Hickey / Carter etc have another year's experience at "A" and Hawke Cup level, and are more mature and better prepared when they step up into FC next season.

Agree about Hiini, but this was only 2 FC games (and Brad Scott 1 game the previous season), hard to find slots for young fast bowlers when Boult / Southee + Arnel + Aldridge were available. Not sure about Baker ahead of the young guys, haven't seen him live so can't comment.

But he did also steal Bradley Scott, so perhaps take away that "tbf". Although NZ selectors did once pick Scott ahead of Andre Adams for a T20 World Cup ...

Was gonna head down and see the rest of the game, but it doesn't seem worth it now. It'll be over (one way or the other) within an hour of me getting to the ground, I suspect.

There good front-on video of Bennetts bowling action, for those interested in his remodeled action - from the Auck v Cant match in the vault.

Also Cameron Fletcher. Verma has come in and done reasonably well this season and Mitchell has come on nicely.
