Loooooooooooooou :( Thanks for the memories. Unforgettable player for mine, for all the right and wrong reasons. Legend :)

Southee really bringing out some Suckstillian length blindness and early committing from Boam there, isn't he. :( "I just thought I made him my bitch, without reward".
OMG. One of those spells to the RHer was outstanding.

BTW. Aldridge passed 300 FC wicketsin the last round without many people noticing. Huge achievement.

Wheater exits the Plunket Shield, cursing its name. Auckland's Cam Fletcher gets a gig ahead of Gadsdon or Seifert.

I've been asked to make an Andrew Mathieson CricX profile video btw Howsie! If you've been in the vault and seen him lidding anyone, let me know the spell.
Has Fletcher moved or is he just playing for ND while still playing for ECB?

Quite satisfying to see the three teams that looked quality at the start of the season come through and occupy the top 3 spots on the Plunket Shield ladder.

Wellington, Canterbury and Auckland need to lift their game.

Sorry, probably not the best example as I don't often follow domestic cricket.

Sub for whoever you think is more appropriate.

There needs to be some plan for how we develop the promising spinners. I don't think there's enough expertise in the country ATM.
There isn't one. As someone who was in the setup at 16/17/18 in academies in Auckland, all we could muster up to develop us was Dipak Patel, and with all respect to him, he just never really did it for me (or most of the spinners tbh). Then came Paul Strang, who on paper really looked like a guy who would help develop you, especially being a leggie, but once he holds a grudge you can bid farewell to him even caring remotely for you.

Its an Auckland problem, highlighted by the fact our best players (not just spin, batsman, as well) seem to know who the "IN" crowd is when it comes to first class cricket.

Another point is how spinners are managed and captained. Speaking very generally, the role of the spinner in NZ is to contain, and as long as T20 and limited overs cricket takes a priority in this country, a matchwinning spinner is long way off.

Ditto for Immenso and any exceptional Dean Bartlett deliveries.

3:25 is where the second new ball starts. The yorker at 2.50 was reverse. Gillespie also got it reversing out with the older ball.
yeah, got the time wrong.

Gosh, it's hard not to get excited about Southee and Boult vs the English batsmen.

Do doubt they will have done their preparation, but it really is amazing how much of a better bowler Southee's become in the last 12 months.

Thanks, that quite interesting.

I think our best bet is to take a lot more of these bowlers on tour and get them working with specialists while they're over there. Whether it was Buchanan who sorted out Vaas and co for the SL tour, it was a great idea and I hope they continue with it.

Well before taking them on tour, we need some sort of fundamental base here for spinners that clearly show potential and stick with them. The unfortunate thing is that quality batsman, and seamers usually will always come but to find a replacement spinner requires patience, a trait which isnt even remotely considered when it comes to actually dealing with spinners, a quick look over at Australias problem is a perfect example of this.

I must say the encouragement towards a young spinner is definitely better, with the likes of Ish getting an opportunity that a few years back wouldn't even be considered. New Zealand's lack of resources and in general, knowledge of spin bowling is not helping either and there alwasy seems to be an emphasis on coaches tryna coach the "right" way to bowl spin from a technical standpoint, rather than the right way to go about bowling spin in terms of the mentality and general differences a spinner faces in the game of cricket than your average bat.

Back to the captaincy and a point I forgot to mention, and how important that role is, you just have to look back at how Daniel Vettori was handled by Stephen Fleming to show you what a great captain can get out of his spinner when he understands their role and position. You can see it slowly happening with Michael Clarke as well.

A spinner is only as good as his captain allows him to be, which is often forgotten, and unfortunately Jeetan Patel is a product of this.

Great news for both Wheeler and Young, and for CD. I thought both were out for the whole season.

Yep I heard Sodhi say he started out with Dipak. Did Strang really not rate Sodhi at all? Was there no real fostering or pathway in place for him regardless of whether they thought he warranted immediate Aces play?

Seeing Sodhi interviews suggesting he's now trying to tap Bradburn for advice doesn't fill me with great confidence tbh.

Yeah we all did, our academy was Ish, Bhupinder Singh, myself and a few of the under 15 guys and with Dipak, much like Strang, if they they get along with you personally, then their sorta is no vested interest regardless of your talent. I'm not too sure whether Strang rated Ish or not to be fair to Strang, but you have to wonder whats up when Tarun was leading wickettaker a few season back, the next season he hardly got a bowl.

Strang has his favourites, thats just how it is really and its why there was such an exodus regarding young Auckland talent leaving for other opportunities. Obviously its hard in Auckland where the depth supersedes that of any other district due in part to the obvious population difference, but there is also something to be said when you look at the ages of the guys leaving (Neesham, Fuller, Raval, Cachopas (and to think Craig only got a contract due to the luck that was Tuffey's retirement) Ish, etc) are all guys who happen to come across Strangs reign.

Im obviously sounding bias and almost bitter (do not like Strang, point blank) but when you talk to these guys about why they were not given an opportunity, there really wasnt a decent reason given by Auckland Cricket. It's of no surprise now that you see guys like Michael Barry, Guptill-Bunce etc all getting a run now because Matt Horne is already establishing a nice core of young players who are ready to make that step.

Has Bhupinder Singh always had a"bit" of a bent arm? It's worse than Williamsons.. I really like Ajaz Patels action btw, could be someone to watch.

Awesome to see Young and Wheeler back.

NORTHERN KNIGHTS: Brad Wilson (captain), Daniel Flynn, Joseph Yovich, James Marshall, Daryl Mitchell, Corey Anderson, Cameron Fletcher, Graeme Aldridge, Ish Sodhi, Brent Arnel, Jono Boult, Anurag Verma

Cam Fletcher officially snaked, whats Auckland up to? One of their best in the A Tournament.
