**Official** India in Sri Lanka 2012

People have said similar things about Sachin. I think they understimate how difficult it is to bat the full 50 overs in an ODI. It is much more tiring than a comparable stretch of a test innings and batsmen will almost inevitably play a tired shot near the end. Ultimately it's the job of the finishers to take the team over the line and India have a couple of excellent ones.

Gambhir has finished quite a few chases actually, he just has problems with run outs lol. I recall so many instances where he got run out in a run chase when he was batting well.

Can we finally get rid of Rohit Sharma? Never seen a more overrated player in my life, complete garbage of a batsmen, unbelievable how many chances we have given him over the course of 4 years and he hasn't done ****. Hate it when our selectors pick players for the wrong format, Umesh Yadav shouldn't be playing ODI cricket, and Rohit Sharma should be a test pick not for limited overs.

AWTA but I think team management will give him one more game. According to Gambhir

I still believe, and whenever I say it I mean every word, that Rohit Sharma, according to me, is the best talent India has ever had. Let's not talk about individuals, let's not put the blame that Rohit is not doing well. When the team is doing well we need to support people who are not doing well.

Gambhir pointed out Rohit's Man-of-the-Series performances against West Indies at home and away last year. "There was a time against West Indies when neither Viru [Virender Sehwag] nor I were getting runs. It was Rohit who was single-handedly winning the games for us. Let's not single out. Everyone should back him because I see him scoring a lot of runs in the future and he could be one of the great players of Indian cricket."

This has to be one of the times the Indian team management got it right. They've picked five bowlers, and made use of the advantage that their top six is strong and two of the bottom five can get runs. The XI for the first game was the strongest, although better spinners could have been picked. Let's just hope they stick to this combination over the duration of the series, and beyond.

Rohit Sharma can stay, as he's one of the best blokes in the side when in form. If he's lost, it's yet another failure of the team management, which has lost too many good players in the recent past. They can, instead, rest Kohli or Raina or Sehwag or Gambhir, and accommodate Tiwary, who's just not good enough to replace Rohit.

But was there any excuse to pick Dinda? It's sad to see someone so irrelevant and outright mediocre actually represent the country. He's got absolutely nothing to add to his place in the side- no pace, no swing, no seam, no bounce, no control on line and length, no consistency, can't bat- and is also short. That he's playing is proof that India have lost some really good pace and swing bowlers over the years. He doesn't make the grade in international cricket. Vinay Kumar minus.

4th match underway, Sri Lanka batting.

34-0 in the 8th seems respectable, but these two aren't great at rotating the strike. 3 or 4 dot balls every over and while Dilshan has hit five 4s he's made only a single from the other 17 balls he's faced.

By taking the batting Power Play they've managed to get the scoring rate up to five an over. Not a bad platform, 300 could be on here.

Less likely now that Dilshan has gone though.

Amusing that India play an extra batsman ahead of a specialist bowler in Rahul Sharma....who then he goes and produces career best bowling figures.

The second half of this innings has been an exercise in weird tbh. Weird bowling card, weird batting by SL... just weird.

Last 25 overs of the innings all bowled by slow bowlers even though India played only one specialist spinner.

Still 25 runs short but why Tiwary at last over when Zaheer was available; might be the case Dhoni gave him the chance of picking up 5 fer

Heh, 4/36 off 8 becomes 4/61 off 10 - guess thats the risk of continuing to bowl a part-timer at the death...

Interesting now if Sri Lanka use a similar tactic with Dilshan and Jeevan Mendis to bowl a good chunk of the overs.

Also strange from Dhoni that Raina, who I thought would've been one of the better part-time options, wasn't even used.
