CW Draft League - The Reserves

MrPrez

International Debutant
Yeah I initially felt that McCabe would be better at three. It was just that he played at 4 and 5 a fair bit when the Don was around.

TBY, WAC. Voce was my next pick.

With Leyland at No.5 your middle-order will have little problem with Bill O'Reilly.

Average against Australia was 56.83 over 9 years. Great player.

That's why I selected him ahead of a couple of others; they both had similar Test records overall, but had weaker numbers against England and Australia, respectively.

Unsure whether to go with one or two more bowlers. I need another paceman - Noble isn't an opener - and I would preferably go in with two frontline spinners. But is 5 bowlers + Hammond + Mitchell overkill?

Noble opened the bowling on a number of occasions, and in that era it was common for two spinners or a spinner and a medium pacer to open the bowling. Often it was Noble and a spinner.

Noble and Barnes ran riot.

An attack of Larwood, Noble, Grimmett and Hammond is perfect considering the era of this draft. Another spinner seems right to me.
