If Len Hutton bats himself at No.5 and Maurice Leyland one spot higher at No.4 in his ATG England Team to play Keith Miller's ATG Aussie Team - then that's good enough for me.

01. Bob Simpson
02. Bill Lawry
03. Charles Macartney
04. Maurice Leyland
05. Bill Ponsford
06.
07. John Waite
08. Ray Lindwall
09. Bill Johnston
10. Sydney Barnes
11. Neil Adcock

BTW Andy and KK seemed to have selected their respective wicket keepers rather too well

Herbie Taylor: Nice pick Valer!

He definitely featured on my short-list.

Yes. I'll post the two teams when I get home to look them up again. Can't quite remember.

4. Mahela Jayawardene
5. Javed Miandad

7 Andy Flower(Wk)
Charlie Turner
George Lohmann
Muttiah Muralitharan

12.7 year average (test) career. (Note time off reduces played time).

Would you believe that was a spreadsheet assisted pick Watson?

Almost tempted to pick my 12th man early to deny him to everyone who wants a spinner.

@watson cheers! I've always wanted to assemble a 'Miller and mates' XI - it was my theme idea for the theme draft - Larwood, Lindwall, O'Reilly and himself would make a fearsome bowling attack

@Valer I tried to get Yousuf voodooed (at the same time, still delighted to get him) and was planning on picking up a new favourite player of mine in the reselection rounds, but it appears Marcuss is going to get him now

Dujon is a good keeper to get IMO. What happened to your usual tendency to pick Marsh kk?

In 1977 Ian Woolridge records how Len Hutton and Keith Miller were asked-
Quote:
'to choose their strongest All-Time XIs to represent their respective countries in a mythical Test. Each was asked to pick themself.'
The venue was to be the MCG. Here is what they came up with;

Len Hutton's XI
01. Jack Hobbs
02. Herbert Sutcliffe
03. Walter Hammond
04. Maurice Leyland
05. Len Hutton
06. Frank Woolley
07. Les Ames
08. George Hirst
09. Wilfred Rhodes
10. Harold Larwood
11. Sydney Barnes

Keith Miller's XI
01. Charles Bannerman
02. Victor Trumper
03. Don Bradman
04. Bill Ponsford
05. Stan McCabe
06. Keith Miller
07. Monty Noble
08. Ray Lindwall
09. Don Tallon
10. Bill O'Reilly
11. Clarrie Grimmett

Source: 'The Picador Book of Cricket', pages 424-27: Ashes Dream Teams (1977)

Note: Keith Miller didn't specify the batting order for Miller, Noble, Lindwall or Tallon. However, the order above is my best guess after 'reading between the lines'.

The only really dubious selections in my opinion are George Hirst and Charles Bannerman. All the other players have very good cases for being chosen. Even if you disagree.

I realised it would be quite unfair not to contest them

I can only process one player for you per sequence, so you'll need to give me another two picks - one for R10 and one for R11 which will start as soon as Blakus gets back to me!
