CW Draft League

Still dont agree, because in every draft that Bradman has not ben included, because he would be the automatic first pick, Garry Sobers has been the first pick. Still predictable.

Sobers is not a huge advantage like the Don no matter how you cut it. As a batsman he's on a par with several other greats, and his bowling was OK but nothing special.

The thing is, Sobers doesn't make your team an automatic winner in terms of its batting lineup.

Well Michael (whose clause it was), used James Garfield to match with Garfield Sobers. So I'd assume it's going to be fairly liberal in that respect. Last name/First name of President can equal either Last name/First name of player, it looks like.
I thought we'd go the surname of the president can match up to either the first or last name of the player - reasonable?

I think the problem with Bradman in drafts is more the perception than the reality when it comes to voting. As soon as someone sees Bradman in a team that'll dispel any qualms they have with the quality of its batting, and it also opens up the opportunity to play five specialist bowlers and/or a specialist wicket keeper. It's hard to mentally compare two teams in your head, let alone eight or whatever at once, so Bradman affects everyone's judgement more than he probably should. It's more of an unfair perceived advantage than an unfair advantage, but when you decide the winner based on a 'panel of experts' as you like to put it, then he does become a problem. He's also by far the most unique cricketer; even if one wanted to make the argument that Sobers was better than Bradman, the likes of Miller and Kallis are a lot closer to matching Sobers than anyone would be to matching Bradman's specific role. Same goes for Hadlee and Procter for the Imran claim, and Sangakkara for the Gilchrist claim.

Maybe my cricket knowledge is lacking, but I'm struggling to come up with a list of decent cricketers based on the Surname only of the USA Presidents.

If you think that there is a list of decent cricketers then just tell me to try harder :p

One of the names has 16 correlating test players on its own - I stopped searching after that. :p

Are we fine with the President/Cricketer name match being one letter off? Is that the limit?

So long as they're the same word - no Bush-Push sort of things, Truman to Trueman is okay
My gut feeling is that this President name thing could get controversial unless we stick to proper spelling. Jager could end up adjudicating on some weird names when he shouldn't have to.

Let's face it - Trueman is no more Truman than Jager is Gager.

Either spelled the same or pronounced the same.

Make it simple, and make it Jager's call if controversial. I'm happy with that.

Cevno is on the clock...

What about singular and plurals? Are we going to allow the subtraction or addition of the letter S to a name?

So we are going with Player has to share first/last name with a US president's last name?

Also, not to sound ***ist but would be interesting to see if anyone has the female test cricketer in their 11.

Perhaps we should make it essential to have them in the XI, otherwise I'd hazard a guess they would be relegated to 12th man
