This team has no obvious flaws. That bowling attack is insanely good, great openers, great middle order, great fields men (Chappell, Lloyd and Woolley especially).

This is going to be a tough decision when voting on the best.

Great team as well. I'd be inclined to play Stewart as as opener, and leave Jardine out.
Great bowling attack again. Serious heat and pace there.

Macartney's record was exemplary at 3. Plus Worrell has the burden of being the fifth bowler, and captain.

Kapil also has the advantage of being a capable batsman. Although Maurice Tate was pretty handy with the bat in his time.

Personally, I prefer sub-60 fast bowlers, but who am I to say that having a slower swing bowler in your team isn't an excellent contrast to extreme pace.

I think that some batsman like Hayden and Gooch prefer straight up-and-down fast bowling to the ball moving around. So, if I were Ed's captain I may even open the attack with Marshall and Kapil Dev when playing KKs team. Especially if it's overcast.

BTW kyear, really strong side as well. I really must pick John Snow in my next draft.
Awesome post. And with a captain as good as Worrell, I don't think the side would have any trouble adapting. Dev doesn't need to be an incredible strike bowler in this side, either. We've got Marshall and Garner for that.

Really strong team Andy!

The top order and bowling attacks are obvious stand-outs. I think that both Morris and Ponsford would enjoy appreciate batting with the aggressive Chappell who would take most of the strike.

If Lloyd and Woolley got going then they would be something very special to watch. My team would need to get Woolley early before he started to hit too many boundaries. The accuracy of McGrath and Roberts, or perhaps McGrath and Verity are obvious bowlers of choice. Holding could then have a crack at Ames and Lindwall IF they were successful.

If only this were all real!

BTW Here is some excellent footage of Lindwall in action (at the 1 minute mark it seems to be him) during the 1948 series. Well, excellent footage for 1948. I was particularly interested in the inswinging yorker (to the left hander) generated by his slightly round-arm action.

This colour footage from 1963 features Fred Trueman bowling. Poor Brian Close drops Sobers at second slip off his bowling (from what I can tell).

However, the stand-out footage is of Wes Hall in action from a couple of different camera angles. Judging by his pace on the day I would say that the 2 short-legs and leg slip were justified.

So this video is really for KK. Enjoy.

Amazing find watson - do you know if it is Wes Hall bowling from the nursery end at about 4:28? Thanks for posting it!

P.S I will post up a voting thread once everyone has confirmed their team order and Cevno/Prez have voted.
