Damien Martyn
1. Len Hutton 2. Bruce Mitchell 3. David Gower 4. Mike Hussey 5. Shivnarine Chanderpaul 6. Clyde Walcott + 7. Keith Miller 8. Fazal Mahmood 9. Jim Laker 10. Alec Bedser 11. Courtney Walsh 12th man: Damien Martyn Not entirely sure whether to go with Hussey or Martyn for number 4. What's the general thought amongst you lot? |

I prefer Hussey for this particular team.
Very solid opening pair but Gower is unpredictable. He can be sublime, but is just as likely to fail. Therefore, I think that you need a more solid batsman at No.4 who can stiiffin up the middle-order with Chanderpaul. Hussey or Chanderpaul would also work well with your attacking batsman Walcott and Miller and allow them to play shots. They would 'hang-around', rotate the strike, and enjoy watching their team-mate hit 4s. Lastly, both Hussey and Chanderpaul are capable of very long patient innings that can last well into the tail. I'm not sure about Damien Martyn though.

Sobers should be told to pull his finger out and bat a little higher at No.5. Dravid made his best innings at No.6 and is just the right man to protect the tail for your team. Or farm the strike to Hammond, Pietersen, or Sobers, as the case may be. But I'm happy to be wrong... |
