To have everyone in the batting position that suits them best, I'd go

1. Hutton
2. Mitchell
3, Walcott
4. Gower
5. Miller
6. Chanderpaul
7. Hussey
8. Mahmood
9. Laker
10. Bedser
11. Walsh

Slightly unconventional, but looks like it'd work to me.

OK, house full of guests just left. Great time. Now drunk.

Do I want a batsman, bowler, or allrounder?

Thinking with 9 remaining neurons.....

Love your team KK. However, having a bloke at No.3 who can give the ball a tonking is important in my view. Hammond is a commanding player and therefore a perfect first drop.

Sobers should be told to pull his finger out and bat a little higher at No.5.

Dravid made his best innings at No.6 and is just the right man to protect the tail for your team. Or farm the strike to Hammond, Pietersen, or Sobers, as the case may be.

But I'm happy to be wrong...

I think I enjoyed this Draft more than the previous one as 12 Drafters is more engaging than just 9. A bit more imagination is required to get a good team together.

I'm now wondering which is the stronger of my two teams;

1. Bob Simpson
2. Mark Taylor
3. Rohan Kanhai
4. Greg Chappell
5. Mushtaq Mohammad
6. Lindsay Hassett
7. Alan Knott
8. Hedley Verity
9. Andy Roberts
10.Michael Holding
11.Glen McGrath

12th. Tony Greig

OR

1. Bob Simpson
2. Roy Fredericks
3. Clyde Walcott
4. Greg Chappell
5. Steve Waugh
6. Clive Lloyd
7. John Waite
8. Richie Benaud
9. Wasim Akram
10.Curtly Ambrose
11.Glen McGrath

12.Eddie Barlow

Initially I thought that Benaud's team was a lot stronger. But now I'm not so sure. Hassett's team has less fire power in the batting department, but may be more resilient over the course of 5-6 test matches. I think the bowling attack is also slightly more balanced with a definite advantage in spin bowling. But Ambrose combined with Akram is hard to go past.....

Akram is overrated in my opinion, still a bona fide ATG though. Big fan of your more recent team actually, it's got such great spin options

That's right. A cracker of an innings.
Why Rahul Dravid is India?s greatest Test cricketer, bar none

Agreed - you might find this interesting as well. IMO the 180 not his best but mighty close, and saying he's best suited to 6 for that reason seems wrong - I believe Bradman batted at 7 in arguably his finest innings.

3rd Test: Australia v England at Melbourne, Jan 1-7, 1937 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Under closer inspection, Bradman's reversal of the batting order may not have seemed so funny to the Tiger seeing as he was out first ball to Voce

But yeah Watson, that was a gem of a knock!

By the way I have a dominating opening pair and I'd love to see RD coming if we lose Gooch early. A dominating Haydos will need someone calm @ the other end. Correct me if I am wrong.

The point of having an aggressive No.3 with 'presence' is that the batting side doesn't lose momentum or initiative just because an opener goes early. The feeling that the bowlers are 'on-top' shouldn't last for too long if the batting side can help it.

And if the openers do put on a substantial stand then the batting side would still benefit from having an aggressive No.3 with 'presence' because it can then 'put the boot in'. An hour or two of Hammond in full flow with his cover drives is enough to take the game away from the opposing captain.

With Dravid at No.3 it is possible that the batting will get 'bogged down' with the feeling that it is 'under seige' if either Gooch or Hayden get out early. That's bad for moral.

Incidently, it is for reasons of initiative and momentum that Miller and Woolley batted higher in the order than their average warranted. Bradman and Hassett thought that it was important to keep the innings rolling along and lift the batsman who had to come in next.

(Of course what I have just written could be all psychological mumbo jumbo and you are free to ignore it. But just think about what made Macartney, Bradman, Dexter, Kanhai, Viv Richards, Ian Chappell etc such memorable and effective No.3s )
