I think number 6 is often seen as the slot for a batsman who bowls a little, rather than a specialist. Bopara wasn't picked for his bowling but with four bowlers you need other options, ideally a bit better than Trott.
Don't think there's much difference between Trott and Bopara's bowling tbh. It's the difference between a 0.6% and a 0.4% chance of a wicket.

If they want a fifth bowling option it should probably be a left-arm tweaker. I'm surprised Patel still hasn't been tried there. Also, it would be a bit left-field but Ian Blackwell's been very, very good this past few seasons.

Was advocating it at one point, but he's been pretty poor this year, particularly with the bat.

Not seen anything of todays play yet but it would seem Ravi did what Ravi does. Get to lunch with these 2 in and we still have a slim chance. New ball will do for us though I reckon.

It's easy to slag off the selectors, I suppose, but a lot of the prospective candidates haven't really held their hand up this year, looking around the counties.

Been one of the problems, weather hasn't helped but still, Compton only man holding his hand up.

In fact I'd fancy him in this situation, he'd leave the hell out of the SA's

Clarke and his sweaty gloves should pick up every ball he dead-bats in next year's ashes'

He did V Sri Lanka didn't he, or did I imagine that?

Cricinfo's comment about SA only needing one wicket an hour seems a little flawed. Not everyone is going to bat at Bell's rate.

Because a lazy run out is exactly what England needs right now.

Bit of a pissweak throw, must be said.
