    Remembering David Hookes

    Remembering David Hookes

At just 21 David Hookes briefly lit up the Centenary Test, but never fulfilled the expectations he created. In this feature Martin looks back at his career, and his tragic death in 2004.

    Didn't handle bouncers well, apparently

Don't be jealous of the Georgie Pie super smash
I will read the article shortly - but will just post that for a while when he was in form (when I was a youngster) the talk in the NZ press was how we had the wood on him because we had been getting him out in the 40s. Mark of a good player if people are celebrating getting you out for 40.
    1) Ross is Boss.
    2) See point 1.

Leading the charge against nuances being used in posts.

Overrated XI M Bracewell, Burns, Rahane, Don Voges, Bairstow, Alecz Day, Donovan Grobelaar, Luke Ronchi, Faulkner, Dan Christian, Permaul

Can't believe it's been 8 years already. Whatever happened to the bouncer?

    Believe he got off.

EDIT: ha, hadn't read the article yet, was covered in it.

Don't know for sure, but think that Hookes might've reeled off a pair of centuries in grade cricket before going on his run of 5 in 6 games, or whatever it was, bringing it up to 7 centuries. A mate's Dad was shooting for a spot in the Shield team at the same time, then the next year his SANFL career took off and he stopped playing cricket.

South Australians talk of how he used to leave his bat leant against the stumps with his gloves during lunch and tea, thus if you arrived during the break, you'd be able to tell whether he was still in or not.
