The ATG World XI's game

I looked further into Merchant and it does seem like he is a fantastic player, but if we go on FC records to that extent, should we also rate Ponsford, Woodfull and Hassett higher?
Unlike Barry Richards and Vijay Merchant, those 3 played good amount of test cricket.

Richards and Merchant were unlucky not to play a significant amount of test cricket.

Probably if someone like Ajinkya Rahane does well in test cricket but not ATG-class, I shall rate him along side Ponsford, Woodfull and Hassett. There is a distinct difference between the 2 scenarios IMO.

Now time to sort out our batting positions for the 4 and 5 slots as well as our final bowler. It was nearly a unanimous decision for 4 main bowlers.

1. Please select two middle order batsman for the 4 and 5 slots
2. Please select one bowler to finalise the main bowling attack

Suggested middle order list

Ken Barrington, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dennis Compton, Martin Crowe, Ted Dexter, Rahul Dravid, Andy Flower, David Gower, Neil Harvey, Vijay Hazare, Mahela Jayawardene, Rohan Kanhai, Clive Lloyd, Charlie Macartney, Peter May, Stan McCabe, Javed Miandad, Dudley Nourse, Kumar Sangakkara, Inzamam ul-Haq, Clyde Walcott, Doug Walters, Steve Waugh, Everton Weekes, Frank Worrell, Mohammad Yousuf.

Fast bowling suggested shortlist

Neil Adcock, Shoaib Akhtar, Alec Bedser, Ian Bishop, Ian Botham, Colin Croft, Kapil Dev, Allan Donald, Joel Garner, Wes Hall, Harold Larwood, Ray Lindwall, George Lohmann, Fazal Mahmood, Shaun Pollock, Mike Procter, Andy Roberts, John Snow, Fred Spofforth, Brian Statham, Dale Steyn, Heath Streak, Frank Tyson, Charlie Turner, Chaminda Vaas, Courtney Walsh, Bob Willis, Waqar Younis

Feel free to choose a spinner if you wish to have two spinners and two fast men.

Don't think we'd get away with only hving two quicks. If we were selecting a five-man attack with a seam-bowling allrounder to come on at first change I'd be more open to it. With Botham, Dev and Procter still to come I think the next XI ought to manage it.

Frank Worrell

A fine leader, excellent batsman who can help provide some overs. SJS outlined in that post linked by GI Joe about his performances against good quality sides.

Ken Barrington

Will maintain the push for him, sliding in at 4 and splitting Worrell and Punter. Super average, suited to coming in early if there is a couple of wickets.

Ray Lindwall

Funnily enough, not selecting one of the bowlers who I named as stiff to miss out, maybe just an oversight. With two Test hundreds and an average over 20, and a great bowling record, he creates a very good pace attack in combination with Davidson and Holding, whilst reinforcing the lower order's strength.

Really surprised for the Barrington love considering Boycott is also in the 11 and they were not known for their attacking nature.
