As far as the thread goes, Ishant is better than Sami as a test bowler by some distance .

A more apt comparison would be Sami vs Agarkar ....Both Agarkar and Sami had far more potential than their test figures suggest and both were decent/good in ODIs

Ishant is less Sami and more Dilhara Fernando- decently fast, very tall, reasonably built, but struggles to take wickets at a bagful (or leaks loads of runs) and struggles with injuries. And of course, there are not enough alternatives or replacements in their respective countries (much more so in India than Sri Lanka), so they're called upon time and again.
