Well on this occasion me a friend battle it out on a run down concrete tennis court. We played horizontally. With a short pitch, and the boundaries off the side.

Game were 10 overs per side, with 7 wickets each.

On one occasion my friend made 110/3 off ten overs. I was chasing and in trouble requiring 26 off 7 balls. At 85/5 off 8.5 overs thing looked screwed. Simon Doull was at the crease for me. The final bowl of the over hit for six through point. 20 off 6 was now needed. The next ball I hit for into one of the corners and on coming back for the third a dramatic direct hit saw me reduced to 93/6 with one wicket and five balls to go. With the tension mounting Heath Streak came to the crease. The first ball was well placed for four through cover. The next ball was sent through mid wicket for four. Suddenly 10 was required from three balls, more than getable considering the last four balls had gone for 16. The next ball saw me hit a delecate shot for six through sqaure leg. Suddenly a remarkable turn around was on the cards. Four off two. But my friend then sent through a dot ball. Four needed, could I do it? Yes, A nicely placed pull for fourrrr.

What A win ! :)

i dunno if its such a classic, but i did hit 100 off 24 balls in backyard cricket.
I was 94 from 23 and hit a 6 and out to go to the ton.....
Not so good for the bowlers, but i did hit em pretty well.
we lived in a dead end street so we played out the front, its fair to say there was no diving in the outfied to save boundaries!

I whipped my friend the other day. I ended on 135/4, him on 68/4:)

Highlights were two flat sixes on one knee:D

I smaked 274 in my backyard one day off our Japanese exchange student. To date this is my highest score in any form of cricket. Please note: The exchange student didn't know what cricket was, the off side boundary was exactly 2.5m from the batsman. But I still claim it. In the post match press conference: "It wasn't one of my greatest innings, I wasn't exactly hitting them off the middle. I have hit them better and made only 15, but I'm not complaining, a double century is a double century."

Hmm well one that sticks in my memory is when my mate bowled a full ball on my pads and i took a quick single.. But he didnt know what a leg bye and the resulting argument ended up in him running to his room in floods of tears...

I ended up on 92 not out... :(

I never play with extras in a backyard cricket game because we never have an umpire.

A moment that sticks in my mind is when I was playing a game with my school friends. I love to field close in, so I took my stance at silly midon. The first couple of overs I was there all was well, but the first ball of a new over, the batsman went for a flick and the bat flew out of his hand and cannoned into my chin. Needless to say I was in pain and I still have the battle scar.

I went off washed it off and got it bandaged. The next day I resumed my stance.

Oh just a bit of passion and will to win, something obviously lost on you people...
*Politely suggests you find what passion and will to win is* ;)

Crying your eyes out doesn't seem that way. Can we have some more details on the argument, please?

"Mother! Mother! That horrible Symthe-Farqhuar-Twystleton III is being nasty! Make we win now or I'll cry and cry and my £2,000 jeans will get all wet and yukky"

Well over time me and my mates have had some great battles.

Here are a few.

A friend from out east of me and I was playing for the first time on his home ground. And I did manage to beat him in the final Inning by 2 runs 109-111. We played a 10 Innings match.

9th November 2000
The first time I played my little Italian friend from school, I got beaten 57-55 in a 5 Inning match which was slightly embarassing.

8th November 2001
As I had named it, the 1st SUMO CUP went to me as I beat my friend Matt by 159-98 in a 10 Innings Match at Garth Park.

28th November 2001
The highest score hit against me in 380 by Matt, scorin 172 in the 9th Inning which was my lowlight. 380-173.

27th December 2001
My friend James began his clobbering era beating me 513-103 in a 10 Inning match, belting 3 centuries.

15th, 24th & 28th January 2002
This one had to be played over 3 days because James scored a mammoth 798-94 over 10 Innings against me. Top score of 286.

19th & 26th February 2002
Tysen made the lowest score to date in a 5 Inning match losing to James at Garth Park 241-21

11th March 2002
I made the lowest score in a 3 Inning match losing to James 381-8.

12th & 15th March 2002
The grand daddy of them all. James posted the highest score ever in 1210 runs in a 10 Innings game, with 3 100's, 1x 150, 1x 200 and 1x286. Final Score 1210-121

15th & 19th March 2002
Highest ever scoring game against Tysen in which we managed 486-367 in a 10 Innings. Tysen best with 142 in the 3rd and 131 in the 8th. I managed 105 in the 3rd.

March 25th 2002
The first limited overs game between James and Tysen. Tysen batted first for 64-3 off 10 overs. James belted 67-0 of 4.1 overs to win easy.

We also managed to have an official teams trial game in my crappy way of trying to get a teams comp together.

The Eagles v The Reapers
2 batsmen bat in this instance and when 1 gets out it's last man standing.
1 batsmen out counts as 1 Innings. So you basically bat 5 times.
After the Eagles 10 Innings, they lead 102-45 with the Reapers to bat. The comeback was on. James smacked a handy 27 before hitting over the fence for 6'n'out. Agonisingly close it was up to Tysen and he managed to belt 2 fours before being bowled for 26. A great last Innings but falling painfully short. Final Score Eagles 102 Reapers 98.

Remember guys, I am in the midst of building a new website for Backyard Cricket around Oz. If you want your results put up for FREE! please contact me - mr_umpy2002@hotmail.com

Cheers.

Back in the days of primary school me and friend had many 10 over battles. On one occasion I had reduced him to 46/4. I was feeling pretty good having just got rid of Martin Crowe and I relaxed a little as Craig Spearman came in. Spearman smashed 134* as my friend made 180/4. ]

In reply I made good work with my chase reaching 92/0 after a rampaging 4 overs. The next few overs provided drama though as I was held down to only 24 runs. The score 116/0 and nothing was secure. I took 50 off the next three overs. Finally the last over settled. I needed 15. It went 242.41 and I picked up a 7 wicket win with Astle making 180*.
