It's quite possible Wade won't play a single game for Victoria next season, so even if Handscomb was seen as a frontline wicket keeping option (which like you I doubt, especially considering he didn't cover himself in glory when he had a go at it last season), I'd imagine another keeper would probably be contracted anyway.

Do you know if he's been offered a contract by another state over the past few years? When he was dumped by NSW originally he'd averaged 40+ in four of the previous five Shield seasons or something so I was surprised a state that needed some experienced batsmen (hello South Australia and Queensland) didn't snap him up. IIRC he's been pretty average with the bat in grade since being axed so it was probably the right call in the end but it was definitely a slightly odd situation IMO.

He had an offer to go over to South Australia, can't remember now whether it was a straight state contract or them telling him to come over to play grade and if he did well they'd pick him.

He has a pretty cool job in Sydney though so he decided against it.

Cricinfo is reporting Brett Lee turned down a NSW contract. He wants to aim for the upgraded CA deal, and doesn't want to take up room in the NSW list.

Pretty sure Thornley was offered a contract by South Australia and Queensland. But declined as he rather stay in NSW.

Cool we get Lee for free.

Steve Magoffin has agreed to a deal with Sussex until the end of the 2013 season. He is no longer available to play for Queensland.

Magoffin never should have been in the Australian squad, but he was still a terrific bowler for QLD particularly at the GABBA when he was fit.

Good on him for taking *insert number* first class wickets and going out a winner in his last shield match.

Taken more first class wickets at a better average than Siddle FYI.

NSW have to keep Hughss,Khawajah,Smith,Hauritz,Lee and Bollinger,& they will want top dollar after being on ca contracts & so will Tas Bailey,Kregja,Cowan.
Seems the talent will be spread throughout the states because these players want top notch deals.
What is the salary cap and squad size limit everyone keeps referring to? NSW have Clarke, Watson, Warner, Haddin, Cummins and Starc on CA contracts. Lee has declined a contract.

I would offer contracts to the following 14 players:

Hughes (must keep)
Maddinson (must keep)
Khawaja (must keep)
Smith (must keep)
Rohrer
Henriques
Nevill (must keep)
O'Keefe
Copeland
Hazlewood
Bollinger
Hauritz
Patterson
Lalor

Of the six players to lose their central contracts Hughes, Khawaja and Smith need to remain at NSW.
