    Auction Draft - Simple Format

I'm looking for 10 participants for this one. USD 15,000,000 per drafter is the budget. I am going to conduct open bidding for 120 players - one-by-one. No secret ballots, no emails - just outbid each other in the open.

There's 12 hours minimum timeline per player. You can post your bid, revise your bid, cancel your bid, or choose not to bid before I post the results and make the next player available. The highest bid wins the player, provided the highest bidder has enough account balance to post the bid. In case of equal bids, the first among the equal bids wins the player. In case of no bid from anyone, I shall introduce a new player (that means there will be 120 selections in total - and no forced selections).

The 12 hours timeline is more for me, than for you. It is the minimum time after which I can throw in the next player. That doesn't mean I shall work like a machine to provide you a new player after every 12 hours dot (although I shall be able to do so sometimes). So you can bid till I post the results of a round - the time for which is 12 hours 'minimum'.

The idea, as always, is to have the best XI. There'll be a voting thread, and I shall also conduct a sim myself using my 'adjusted averages adjusted for opposition, conditions, sample size and longevity' (which I'll not disclose beforehand).

As you can understand, this draft will take 2-4 months time as it stands So bear that in mind when you join.

Also please note that I have already decided on the 120 players I am going to make available, in turn. I don't claim them to be the best 120 players ever or something. The onus of choosing a balanced XI lies on you. Just for a random example - I don't promise to provide you with wicketkeepers till all of you have one. However, this in no way means that I shall purposefully make your lives miserable

2 points to note before I start:

    1. 10 drafters and 120 players don't automatically ensure 12 players per team. Some may end up with 15, some may end up with 11. But keep in mind that if you end up with less than 11 players then that's game over for you (even if Bradman is among the players you have, for example).

    2. If you don't have a specialist keeper in your side then I shall penalise you in the sim by assigning one of your premier bowlers as keeper. For the sake of definition, here I define a 'specialist keeper' as one who has either kept in 20 test matches, or kept in 50% of the test matches he has played or both.

One small hint in the beginning can make your lives easier: There won't be any absolute 'dud' players among the 120, whatever that means.

I'm keen. Should be around pretty much all the time, because I have no life.

    I'm in.

12 hours is a bit too tight though. Make it 24 to give everyone in each timezone a fair chance. 24 hours on the dot should work I suppose.

I know it's not strictly how auctions work, but could you not put up two players at a time, so the draft takes less time, or would that be too complicated?

And smalishah's avatar is the most classy one by far Jan certainly echoes the sentiments of CW

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

Another option is to let bidding continue till I post the next player, which will be approximately 24 hours in most cases.

12 hours will remain the minimum time-gap between 2 players, but that doesn't mean I shall work like a machine to provide you a new player after every 12 hours dot. (although I shall be able to do so sometimes).

    Does that sound OK?

It wouldn't be a draft thread without me. In.

On the timing issue I'd prefer 24 hours. People have to work and sleep you know

Make it 24 mate. I'm fairly active on here and even I would struggle with a 12 hour time limit. This is especially the case on weekends where I am likely to be otherwise engaged.

The problem with 24 hour timeline is that I shall take some time to come online to post the results and the next player after the 24 hours are gone, because I too have have to work and sleep myself

Even if I consider 12 hours as my average turnup time, that'll make (24+12) or 36 hours per player. So (120*36) hrs or 6 months for the draft to end, at least.

On the other hand, if you go by my rules, you'll get close to 24 hours per player more often than not (though the minimum is 12 hours). Trust me I shall not come online after every 12 hours to make your life miserable. Maybe I shall come online after 20 or 22 hours sometimes (and 30 or 40 hours when I am too busy). So you'll get enough time for most of the players. Also, the nature of the game is such that if you miss some players it won't matter much (unless he's a very important player). I shall also try to give enough time for important players. I shall make sure the spirit of the rules is more important than the words.

Edit: Please go through the revised rules in OP, and indicate if they're fine.

It's simple Ankit. It's like real-life auction. I make one player available. You guys bid in the open. The highest bid wins the player. Then we move on with the next player. You have USD 15,000,000 in total to make your team.

    Think about IPL auction

This would be interesting if you got to the players at random.. Or gave us a set of players at any one point to choose from.. It is a simple auction even then..
We miss you, Fardin. :(. RIP.

I keep getting confused with all these Kohli (the ****) avatars. It's like when the monkeys attacked CW.
