Now joins the likes of R Connor, J Haliday, G Ireland, D Minogue and G Asif in the top echelon on batsmen to play the game.

Why do you leave out M Singh? Superior to all of them and better looking as well (except G Asif who looks exactly the same)

Didn't do anything outside of the sub continent, unlike identical twins Dixon and Borg.

I think Jono nailed it before when he mentioned Tendulkar's remarkable durability and that table backs it up - 763 innings is a phenomenal amount of cricket.
Yeah this is mainly a achievement in longevity. He has done for 23 years which some other great batsmen of his generation have done for 13 years, say.

Congrats Sachin, you absolute champ!

You know what annoys me? The annoyance that people developed about this record. Why does it bother people so much that people are acknowledging this feat? All such landmarks are arbitrarily set anyway. Someone decided that we will celebrate when a batsman gets a 100 runs. Why not 83 or 130? Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things if they scored 99 and then got out? Let’s just celebrate the man for achieving something that hasn’t been done before. Celebrating him for this doesn’t mean you are automatically proclaiming him to be the greatest cricketer or batsman ever. It just means you recognize his genius and acknowledge how difficult it is to achieve what he did.

Wanted to make this point earlier, agree completely.

It is an achievement in endurance and skill. Horrible form from the trolls on this thread. We can have a kosher thread celebrating Richards' 60th with everyone chiming in with platitudes but a truly monumental feat in batsmanship, albeit more a product of longevity and enthusiasm, is being **** on.

Not the ideal 100th ton, was it? In a way i think everyone deserves this... ridiculous amount of unnecessary hype for the record, its fitting that it should be so anti-climactic

Thought: If Tendulkar suddenly goes on another 2010-style run of tons, will people take that as proof that the hype over the landmark really was getting to him?
Landmarks have generally gotten the better of Tendulkar, he needed some 150 odd runs to go past BC Lara as the highest run getter of all time back in 08 and it took him about 5 tests to get it. Just goes to show he is after all a human.

What I'm hoping for now is that he goes on a run making spree and averages close to what he did in 2010.

India should've won regardless tbh. Comes down to whether Tendulkar should've taken into account the ****eness of his bowling attack
