Death of a Gentleman

Saw this last week. Thought it was very interesting - definitely worth a look:

Explosion of money in the game in the last 15 years or so but the ICC as an organisation has virtually no governance procedures or any transparency in its decision making. Kimber and Collins travel all over the world in search of answers.

Giles Clarke interviews were a highlight. Is that guy for real? No to cricket at Olympics as it would derail the English season (but it only takes 2 weeks every 4 years??)

N Srinivasan was also interviewed. Investigated his conflicts of interest.

Ed Cowan was good. Excellent insight into his test career. Gideon Haigh was fantastic.

Afterwards there was a Q&A with Kimber, Collins and weirdly Lalit Modi. #changecricket is being used on twitter and I believe there is or is going to be a petition.

Anyone else seen it yet?

Yeah I saw it in London on Thursday. Thought it was really good. Liked the bits with Cowan, and the interviews with Clarke and Srini, although the Q&A with Kimber and Collins was rather staged and we couldn't actually ask any questions.

@ Midwinter - I think the initial hypothesis was investigating if test cricket was dying but then expanded to include the future and health of cricket more generally.

@ Vic - yeah was surprised to see Modi there though he was interviewed in the doc, mainly agreeing that the game is poorly run at present. He wasn't going to miss a chance to stick the boots into Srinivasan either.

Saw this last week. Doesn't really tell you anything that you don't already know if you're a regular Cricinfo reader, and the production values are - tbf - rubbish. A bit snobbish in places about T20 cricket ("it's not cricket! It's just empty entertainment that'll probz be cancelled in a couple years!"), and their attempt to gatecrash an ICC meeting was cringe-inducing to say the least. Still interesting to see the interviews with many of the major figures in modern cricket administration. Giles Clarke came across like a cartoon villain. Honestly, if you're going to be that surly and condescending in an interview why bother agreeing to do it in the first place?
