He's all I really remember from that series. He seemed to have bottle.

Someone will tell me he averaged 9 now.
No, you're right about that. He just had trouble converting solid starts into good scores.

How well has Guptill played? Left well, and when he has played/edged its been with soft hands. He even managed to punish Steyn for straying onto middle stump there

Batting-wise that's a great effort from us. It was inevitable Nicol was going to go early but losing only one wicket is promising.

Decent sort of start. Tahir will get Guppy pretty quickly after lunch but he's at least seen off the new ball. I struggle to see us winning this match with only 4 specialist batsmen (given that Nicol might as well be classed as a specialist spinner).

Yeah, too many bowlers in your line up.

South Africa still favourites at the TAB...

NZ: $2.50
South Africa: $1.90
Draw, which must be unlikely now barring significant rain: $6.00

That's very generous money for SA to win tbh, they only need one decent session to get a 100 run lead & hence run away with the Test match.

NZ in the driver's seat atm. Steyn hasn't been taking as many wickets of late.

NZ should aim for a lead of 200 or so and unless SA improve on the dismal display yesterday, they will surely go into Hamilton one down.

There doesn't look to be too much in the pitch so Martin has outbowled the Saffers to this point with a brilliant burst.

Hell of a long way to go but excellent approach with plenty of intent from Guptill and McCullum so far. I would think about being more optimistic if these two could survive to the 30 over mark, which would help Taylor and Williamson a lot, but then SA still have Tahir and I know what we are like v spin. Happy with 40/1 though

Well we've done better than I expected.

If we're still in by the time I get home tonight I'll count it as a success. Hope Taylor gets a massive ton.

Should he still be classed as RAF? He seems to operate almost entirely in the high 130's these days. He's pretty much the same pace as Martin, though I guess he is capable of quicker bursts in short doses.
