I just worry about selections based on ODI performances especially against teams like Zimbabwe which shouldn't equate to facing teams in the Plunket Shield like Otago with Wagner, McSkimming etc.

Ryder should have never been recalled in the first place.

All you ****s who wanted Ryder back so soon, you can go **** yourselves!!

So I guess the team will be

McCullum
Guptill
Williamson
Taylor
Nicol
Vettori
Twatling
Bracewell
Southee
Boult
Martin

Wow, we are going to get turbo-****ed. I'll be a little surprised if we make 250 at any stage of the series with that team.

Agree with most of the above, weather permitting it's hard to think the Test matches will last more than 3 days with SA bowlers eating NZ batsmen for breakfast.

As BFP pointed out, that's the strongest 11 we could put on the field, apart from Nicol.

Who would you change, other than Nicol?

Did i hear on the news that Jesse Ryder was only out for two matches? Might have heard that wrong.

Pleased with the Ellis selection. Wells was a batting all-rounder, IMHO Ellis is a bowling all-rounder, same role as the younger Oram filled. Hope that Wright and Taylor consider using him as the 4th seamer, perhaps Southee can be "rested"?

Not quite sure why Arnel is there. Ellis can do Arnel's stock seamer role, and can bat. In case of injury to Bracewell, would we really want Southee at #8 and Boult at #9?

Feel sorry for van Wyk, he has consistently out-performed the other CD batsman this year (apart from Sinclair), but Wright can't really take the gloves of Watling (and move him to #5) as I assume he wants Watling in the keeper-batsman role for the next 3-4 years.

They said, to which I'm extremely skeptical, that Ryder was dropped because of poor form and wouldn't have even been considered for the tests.

Ellis is pretty average bowling-wise. I can't see him troubling Kallis, Amla etc at least significantly more than someone like Franklin. He only took two wickets in the five ODIs he played and three of those games were against Zimbabwe. He looked competent enough with the bat though.

Given how badly the batting is weakened by Ryder and Brownlie's absence, and given Vettori's piss poor form for ND I wouldn't bother with 4 seamers. That only worked in Hobart because we were playing on a green top, and for some stupid reason it sounds like New Zealand's grounds keepers are busy preparing a sequence of flat batting tracks for the tests. Revert to 6 specialist batsmen, drop ****ling for either young or van wyk (probably the latter based on current form) and play Boult ahead of Southee.

Is also prefer anyone ahead of Guptill. That useless **** couldn't build a test innings to save himself.

Yeah, that frankly doesn't make sense. They should really be honest about this and just say that Ryder is out of the team indefinitely.

So your ideal team would be something like this?

1. Yovich/Brodie (currently the form openers in the Plunket Shield)
2. McCullum
3. Sinclair
4. Taylor
5. Williamson
6. Woodcock/J. Marshall (highest run scorers in the shield not already accounted for)
7. van Wyk
8. Vettori
9. Bracewell
10. Boult
11. Martin

Quiz question (linked to the current NZ test team) - how many current active NZ players have been in a test XII, but are yet to make their test debut?
